Coinflash vs Dust

I Want To Invest In Cryptocurrency

But there's one problem. I'm scatter-brained.

Enter spare change cryptocurrency apps!

These things are perfect for people like me who want to invest on a more regular basis but don't want another BILL.

I mean, who wants those? Am i right?

The concept of spare change banking is not new. In the past I've used Acorns, an app that tracks the spending of each card you link to it and rounds off every purchase amount to a nice flat number. This isn't a testimonial for spare change banking but for somebody like me, that kind of product is a godsend.

As the train for cryptocurrency gets closer and closer to leaving the proverbial station, I've wondered whether somebody would create something similar for cryptocurrencies.

This feature used to be the main attraction of Lawnmower (https://lawnmower.io) but before you get hasty and click that link, they no longer support spare change functionality as of March 2016 and have essentially become a less popular Coinbase...

First String

Luckily, some new angels have come along and picked up the charge. Leading the way at the time of this post is Coinflash. Coinflash promises a similar function by tracking and reserving spare change from your purchases, then investing it into Ethereum at the end of a period that you choose. Unfortunately, the app is limited to Ethereum at the moment but with the recent surge in cryptocurrency interest you probably won't be disappointed ; )

This one is set to drop on September 15 but you can sign up for an account now at https://coinflashapp.com

Up And Coming

Next up is Dust (https://www.dustapp.io) which looks to provide a similar convenience as Coinflash with the added benefit of investment diversity. They are advertising support for Bitcoin and Ethereum and judging by the wording of their website, Dust will likely support more cryptocurrencies as they grow into the future, so long as they have one. I've joined the alpha waitlist myself because it looks pretty promising on the surface. Here's to optimism and healthy skepticism!

Now that we're feeling good and everything, maybe we can talk about the bullshit?

Yeah?

Maybe?

Okay let's do it.

I was one of those people who didn't invest in cryptocurrency when I first had the chance - partially because I was apprehensive but also because I was in a dire financial situation. Since I'm now more well-informed on mining and the blockchain in general, I'm ready to make the plunge. However, I keep hearing about SCAMS.

It seems like every other week I hear about a Ponzi-scheme-esque scenario where some upstart company starts a new cryptocurrency, everybody gets hype about it before the founders of said cryptocurrency disappear and the platform crumbles before it ever gets anywhere.

Maybe for those of you who have been in the crypto game for awhile, this is just another day out in these cyber streets. But for a turtle like myself, it's pretty worrying.

Yeah, I'm doing better than I was a few years back but I would really hate to lose large sums of money in something like that. I believe in Steemit because it requires some kind of thought and labor... but something like a spare change cryptocurrency app which tracks your purchases? Convenient on one hand but scary as the monster under my bed, on the other hand.

So are you going to support the spare change cryptocurrency wave and make it the next big thing? Or do you want to give it some time, letting the early adopters have all the fun?

These apps are a great start. I tried coinflash for 40 minutes. It was very impressive. Then I did the math. The fee's make it so you lose like 40% of your contributions. Also the pricing of coinbase is always higher than any exchange.

If someone builds an app OR coinflash or dust stop using coinbase and use an api based exchange, then I will sign back up.
