The sorting continues!
There’s a specific format in Magic: The Gathering that I’ve avoided...
And it’s EDH aka commander.
- 40 life points
- Singleton deck
- EXACTLY 100 cards
- Legendary creature or planeswalker as your commander.
What’s wonderful about commander is that you’re able to utilize a bunch of old cards that have rotated out of standard. The troublesome thing is that it takes me forever to make one of these decks! Our chest is overflowing with magic cards and soon it’ll erupt if something isn’t done soon. I made a personal vow, promising to not make an EDH deck until all the cards were in order. I’m extremely stubborn so it’s been...maybe a year since I’ve played that format. Another benefit to organizing the cards is that I’ll save money. Instead of heading to the shop to pick up more cards, I could pull from what we have at home. Those benefits outweighs the trouble. I’d also like to give away a large chunk of our cards to either friends or new players.
The progress I’ve made...
14 hours of sorting over two days and I’ve managed to group the cards based on set release. Lands and tokens have their own individual box and rare/mythic rare cards are sitting in an enormous box, waiting to be filed beautifully in our binders. I had to do yoga to stretch out the upper half of my body. I made the mistake of organizing while seated on the floor.
Oh, the frustration!!!
I had hoped to have a deck built before @kommienezuspadt’s return from the west coast. Unfortunately, life happened. He returned and said with a cheeky grin, “You could’ve made one if you wanted!” Which set me aflame and I wanted to throw something at his shiny bald head.
Do you ever use "custom tokens" from artists who sell them?
Yes, local artists mostly. I also saw that @beekart has tokens coming out soon so I’ll have to snag some of those!
What did you end up with? Or started on?
Nothing so far. I have to start from scratch after watching the others play. I’m up against Padeem and Nikya. Speed and strength seems to break both decks so that’s a part of my strategy. Can’t reveal too much because there are spies among us!!

My partner gets bitch slapped if he annoys me like that but we're used to it XD
The only time I ever played Commander was when I was helping my partner test some commander decks he'd thrown together and I died horribly because that was also the first time I'd played Magic in...over a decade and I was going in totally blind XD
I remember how long it took when he finally got to sorting out his cards anyway, hope you're done now XD
