Sketching Shapes & Shadows
Finally, a cloudy day in Minneapolis! I’ve been avoiding @caffetto because their air conditioning sucks in the summer and we’ve been hitting between 85-90°F with humidity. I can get a little snippy when I’m hot so instead of blessing my friends with my presence, I’ve chosen to take a break from the coffee shop.
So far my day is going great! I was treated with this delicious raspberry topped cheesecake and a light roast coffee on the side. I also totally steam rolled @nickcdavis and @kommienezuspadt in two rounds of Magic: The Gathering 3 v 3, brawl format. (I played with my usual red/green Legendary Creature Samut deck.) I’ve got many tricks up my sleeve so....sorry not sorry! Plus, I’m planning on getting my ass kicked in Street Fighter once we return home.
This evening, I was able to put a nice twist on the studies that I’ve been doing recently with added shading. They turned out exactly as I had envisioned. I wanted them to be more detailed, still have the softness which makes it my style and remain as simplistic as possible. I think I’m getting better with my use of negative space.

I think I'd brave the heat for cheesecake! LOL! Your work is beautiful.....I'm always amazed by people who can draw.

Are you telling me it's 90 and humid now in MN? That's crazy, it's not even Summer, or do you mean when it is that hot? I don't like the heat. We usually stay cooler being on the sea, but today is downright chilly, but I'm loving it as I am still able to mess about in the garden and wear a light jacket.
Currently! This weekend it’s been lovely with cooler temps around the 70 but the rest of the week it’s going to be in the mid to high 80’s. Minneasota is known of it’s extreme weather conditions. Miserable in the winter and just as bad for our summers.
I wish we lived closer to the sea!
My perfect Summer temp is 70's. We usually only get one or two days in early August that are in the 80's but mostly we have comfortable temps with just enough heat in the afternoon to make you want to have a cool dip in the sea.
We had a miserable Winter this past one :/

I really like the way you did these sketches - with part of it being detailed, and then almost framing the shading with a less detailed, simplistic part. They have all sorts of visual interest.
