Rape Issues 26; Should Rape Be Reported

Whenever a female has been raped, she should report it immediately to her family and also to the necessary authority.

Ironically, it has been observed that most rape victims often keep quiet, deciding not to tell anyone and choosing rather to suffer in silence and bear the burden alone. Sometimes, when they manage to tell their loved ones, the latter surprisingly advise the matter be left in a cooler to avoid embarrassment. Consequently, nothing is done about the criminal act.

Some other people choose to be silent because they think it is better to put the sordid experience behind them. Others keep quite due to threat from the rapist. However, many keep silent out of fear of blame and shame.

It is however strongly recommended that every act of rape be reported immediately so that the victim can get the right and necessary treatment promptly.
