[Homeless] Daily Update #2 - (Day 4 - Made it to Glenwood Springs, CO......but my van is dying fast!)

in #homeless7 years ago (edited)

I have no pictures for today. I was traveling north out of Vail yesterday and all hell broke loose. I was on flat ground doing about 50 mph and blew a tire. While changing my spare I noticed that the rear end of the van was puking fluid. Then about 2 miles after putting my spare tire on I lost all brakes; none, nada, zilch. I managed to bleed the brakes and got a little bit back but I have to pump the brake pedal like a crack whore on speed to get any stoppage! Add this to the no A/C, front end that is so loose I can barely stay on the road and other problems the van has like weird noises coming from the engine now and I think it is safe to say I am screwed.

I am sitting in a McDonald's right now trying to collect myself and my thoughts (I am freaking out big time). I have money in Steemit, but it takes 13 weeks to get it. Plus if I pull my money from steemit (Power Down) it:

  • Means I have to pull my delegation (loans to other people to help me curate)
  • Means I loose my power for voting on people
  • Means I loose my power for voting on myself
  • Means I have to drive this thing (and hope I don't kill someone) until I can get up enough money (from powering down) to repair/replace it

As you can tell I really do not want to power down.....I do not want to take back the Help I have given to others (via Delegation)....I also do not want to beg! I did a post a few days ago trying to sell all of my Steemit Related Domain names and haven't had a single offer on one yet (to purchase). I have multiple posts about my situation (being homeless) and now this one about my (home dying before my eyes).

I did sell off what little crypto I had in the exchanges today and converted it to USD on my BitPay card. So I now have $500 (or so) to help me figure out what to do....I know that is nowhere near enough to fix my van/home so I am still trying to get my bearings and make a plan.

Any advise, suggestions or offers for a vehicle I can drive/live in for a while (like a van or small motorhome) are more than welcome!

Something like this is what I really need, too bad I don't have $12,500 - https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/6208002874.html

Be nice if you had a place to do repairs on your own or with the assistance of a shade tree mechanic.

I wish I had more to give you my friend, but I'm resteeming all your post and I'm praying for you. @venuspcs, I know this is your current situation, but it's also an awesome story and you will prevail over all your current obstacles. This story has a happy ending. Much love from @runridefly, one of your biggest fans.

I am sure when I quit freaking out (big time freaking today) I will get this figured out like a champ.....

As long as you're safe and have a place to sleep. Where you parking overnight?

Throw some marvel mystery oil in the crankcase and in the fuel tank and make sure that engine has enough oil.

Feel free to remove the SP I won from your contest anytime my man. You need it more than I .

This may help get you some stopping power. Figure out which brake lines are leaking. Then look at your master cylinder for your brakes and figure out which brake lines off of the master cylinder supply those brakes. Take off those lines and plug the master cylinder holes with a nail and then screw the nut back on the master cylinder. This should help restore braking power to the brake lines that are not leaking. You won't have full stopping power but some is better than none. I drove a car using this technique from Ohio to Tennessee this way.

Well it isn't that the brakes are leaking (fluid) they are (sucking air) cause I need all new brakes....so this won't work sadly!

If you can find two that are not sucking in the air it would work the same way.

I prayed god to help you with your situation :)

I'm thinking there are exchanges for selling domain names. I'm not familiar with it too much, but I think I have seen others do it. You are in my prayers. Keep posting and striving. The answers will come.

@venuspcs - For what it's worth, I intend to write a #payitforward post. It'll be about 8 days 'til it pays out. Unfortunately my liquid funds are already earmarked for other posts and challenges but as soon as I see what's available I'll make a donation to you too. Hang in there!

You should maybe consider parking at a Walmart and trying to make a deal with a local to rent a piece of a rural property. This is common in typical off-grid areas but unsure about Colorado. Only been there once myself.

Just gotta say I love your accent. It's the most Texan thing I've ever heard. Keep us updated
