Community Building Is From The Heart
Hey Ya Fellow Steemians,
We just recently concluded the 1st #Teammalaysia Sabah gathering at Beringgis Fireflies Cruise. The moments of joy and happinesss still lingers upon us. We have always mentioned about Community Building in Steemit, which we can help each other to grow in our Steemit Adventure Journey.
Today I wish to bring you to the Ground Level (Back to the Primitive), and introduce to you the Community in Donggogon -Tamu in Penampang. Tamu pronounced as "Tah -Moo", where people will gather in one space to buy and sell. Back in those days, Tamu practices the Barter Trading which i believe till today some still practices it (among the traders).
Donggongon Tamu is close knit Kadazan Dusun Community in Penampang. Where mostly farmers, fisherman, craftsmen, traditional bushmen, artisans and middle business man/women will come and sell their goods. Back in the days, during the North Borneo Trading- when still under British Colonization, Tamu is a special gathering place for the community. A place people gather to receive Newsletters from other districts; a meeting place to pass around information, news, announcement and etc. Even village head will come to Tamu to spread news of hope, reports of well being in the Community.
Today, time has change, but the ideology still stay the same. It is great joy to see young & old come together to participate this weekly event. Donggongon Tamu is held every Thursday and Friday from early Sunrise til Dawn. Tamu Commmunity has a special flare to my heart actually, i literally grew up seeing the tamu grown flourishly to a better day by day. Some traders has been there for the past 2-3 generation, carrying on the family legacy in making end's meet for their family.
From my last visit, 2 weeks ago, I met my childhood friend there selling fresh vegetables and local rice wine. We use to fish together in the Moyog River when we were kids, and i remeber clearly that every Thurday and Friday back then, he will not come fishing due to help his mom / dad selling fresh vegetables in Tamu. Fast forward today, He inherited his dad's land but turn it into Rented Homes, then i ask him the vegetable comes from ? He say with a nice smile "we take from the wholesaler". Smart Business Men (haha). Then linger in my eyes, i saw a yound child emerges out from the traders table below looking at me !!! He told me its his young son... he says he just woke up from his nap. I took a peek at the bottom of the table(it was covered actually with table cloth), he placed a "tikar" on the floor for his son to sleep. HOW AWESOME and CUTE is that !!!! I PRAISE him for his Simplicity of LIFE, his Humble Heart, his Honesty and i cherish his true Friendship.
(I did not take Picture of the table of my Friend because i wanna respect his space for his Son. Nonetheless, i realise i have a picture of kid playing & sleeping under the table when i was there before with my Niece Madeline 😇 SEE PIC BELOW)
We chatted abit more actually, he told that one of the traders relative help him get small loan and make the land into 15 rented house, and continue to sell local produce because that was his father legacy, he also mention that he has a 10acre fruits orchard, planting Corn, Watermelon, Pineaple, Langsat and Durians. It is run by his staff and a cousin for distribution (Now We TALKING). He also say that traders here help a lot to buy from him too, he is the wholesaler and also a distributor. He is grateful that he doenst have to go to big restaurant or companies to sell his produce (although he say some hotels call him for booking too) but he say i rather sell to the traders here, because they make a living here. Big Hotel will charge 10times to thier customer when buying from me. (Think about it).
We parted away as he was getting busy with customer buying his vegetables, i bought some vegetable too from him. When i walk away to my car, i realised something is BIG here, his HEART is Big. Famous hotel willing to pay him Good Money for his produce, but he rather sell to other traders there FOR THEM to make a living. As he say, traders there help each other, even help him secure a small loan to built his rented house. It all make EVERY SENSE that he is one of GOOD Example Community Member in Donggongon Tamu.
Conclusion
The Power of Community lies within the heart of each every one of us. Sincerity, Honesty, Team Work will goes a long long way ahead. Eventhough we will bump into few hurdles, it will be collective effort to endure and face it . You are not Alone, you will have the community to back you up.
