My first Curation Reward
Couple days ago I was wondering why my Upvotes didn't bring me any Curation Rewards and was a little mad because I have upvoted future trending article and didn't receive anything.
Now I know why and what to do to start receiving curation rewards. You need to Power Up your Steem Power. If your Steem Power is to low you won't get any curations rewards even if you are the first one to upvote the most popular post.
Also I have a question for the Steem experts here. I am still not sure if this is true please let me know if you have information about this:
If you upvote before 15 minutes you give 99.94% to the author and get 00.06%
If you upvote after 15 minutes you give 50% to the author and receive 50%
I f you upvote after 30 minutes you receive 100% curation reward

Yes, if you upvote in the first 30 minutes, some percent of your curation rewards goes to the author. The percentage the author gets 100% of the curation rewards for an upvote at the same time [1] as their post, then it declines by 3.33% per minute. This was implemented after bots started spamming upvotes on every post as soon as it was posted.
Curation rewards depends on your SP, and you do not get any if you have less than 0.001 SP [2].
[1] Under ordinary conditions, only the author himself will upvote a post at exactly the time it is posted.
[2] I.e. the STEEM value of the SP must be 0.001 STEEM.

That feels like an awful hack. Why wouldn't bots simply vote a bit later?
So, when I read an new post from 'new'. It's better to wait half an hour?
Because otherwise I would be penalized by the system, for it suspecting me being a bot?

I believe that if the time/upvote curation reward is more or less linear, so after 5 minutes you get approximately 1/6 of 100% and after 10 minutes 2/6 of 100% and so forth.
