Down in Rome
So down, in fact, that I was touching the ground!
This is a night view of Rome’s Capitoline Hill, which is capped by an elegant piazza designed by Michelangelo.
Straight ahead is the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, and to the right, a superb museum housing some of the finest antiquities anywhere in the world.
It’s wonderful at night. There are few people there, and you can sit down on the steps and really relax, enjoying a respite from the often scorching daytime temperatures of summer.
I commemorate all of this by sticking the Nikon on the ground, dialling in a ‘wrong’ white balance setting, and just pressing the shutter without framing anything in particular.
I like this kind of shot, but I dare say many who’d like a more conventional view of the Italian capital will be disappointed.
