What is Self-Improvement?
What is self-improvement?
The terminology gets slung all over the internet, there is an article to be found about it in every second magazine and many people aspire to this goal. But what is self-improvement really?

Identification
Self-improvement refers to any growth, referring exclusively to the self. This seems pretty straightforward and obvious, however, there seem to be many people who get it all wrong.
The reason for this is that many people understand that self-improvement means improvement. Yur knowledge, your status, your body or whatever it is that you need to improve.
The main flaw in self-improvement is that people tend to want to improve in terms of others. They measure themselves not on a scale based on themselves, but rather a scale that is based on a separate person.
This is actually called competition. Not self-improvement. It is important to understand the difference between the two.
A Will
I order to improve yourself you need willpower. Without that long-lasting version of motivation that it is likely that whatever it is that you want to achieve will fall on its face. It takes time and effort to reach a new level. Sometimes the start of learning is hard and at other times there is a level between intermediate and master that takes the longest to bridge.
Will Power means never giving up.
A Plan
Self-improvement is different from competition, because you are not trying to do better than another person, you are trying to do better than the "you" of yesterday.
In order to do this, you need to be able to take a measurement of whatever it is that you wanted to improve on. This needs to become your next point to beat. As I have set before, goals need steps in between. If you want to preserve your Willpower for when you really need it.
Followthrough
You have the will to make a change in your life. You know exactly what you need to do in order to get there...
And then nothing ever happens.
I have heard too many people who have all the WANT of getting that self-improvement going. They talk about it a lot. They think about it a lot. Yet nothing ever happens.
The reason for this is again a kind of willpower issue. This time it is not the "perseverance" component of willpower and more linked to the "action" component that says: I WILL do this!
People build their hopes and dreams based on their pipe-dreams and aspirations. Few people actually make workable, scalable and achievable plans. Fewer still bridge the gap and actually DO what they say they are going to do!
Just DO it!
If you have the plan, if you have the willpower then go ahead and do it! Right... NOW!
Achievement
If you have actually taken that last step seriously then all you need to do is keep doing it. Keep practicing, keep learning and keep striving. You might not have a natural talent for what you are trying to achieve. You might not be good at it. However, with perseverance, you will succeed.
Go and get it!

Good article, though it could benefit from some proof-reading for errors. I think the greatest take-away is the distinction between self-improvement and competition. The two are not mutually-exclusive, but focusing primarily upon a standard of our previous self is a much healthier practice.
I didn't read the "Achievement" part, because before that you told to start now :/ so i did it.
