This is a two part Deep Dives exploration concerning the relationship between nuclear detonations, earthquakes and tsunamis. More precisely, the aim is to see if any evidence exists to support the possibility that the awesome power of nuclear explosions could be used to create unnatural disasters in the forms of earthquakes and tsunamis.

Not too long ago, films depicting natural disasters were all the rage in Hollywood. We’ve all seen the apocalyptic scenes where gigantic tsunamis bear down on Manhattan or the annihilation of major coastal cities in seconds. The cataclysmic event is most often set-off by a comet or asteroidal impact with Earth. While this scenario is quite believable, and even discussed by the scientific community, the possibility of man-made natural disasters is rarely considered. However, there are some clues that suggest that some natural disasters could be triggered by human activity.

North Korea

In 2017, North Korea tested it’s largest and most advanced nuclear device in an underground facility deep beneath Mount Mantap. At the time, seismologists from China, South Korea and the United States determined that the blast caused an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. With its most powerful test to date, it’s believed that the North Koreans were successful in manufacturing and detonating a hydrogen bomb equivalent to 17 Hiroshima bombs. Eight minutes later, a second, magnitude 4, earthquake was detected in the area that experts believe was caused by a collapse of the geological structure above the test area.

A new study released in September 2018, suggests that the nuclear test triggered dozens more earthquakes in the surrounding area but on a smaller scale.

The test and collapse were picked up by seismometers around the world and widely reported at the time. But later, without fanfare, seismic stations run by China, South Korea and the United States picked up 10 smaller shocks, all apparently scattered within 5 or 10 kilometers around the test site. The first two came on Sept. 23, 2017; the most recent was April 22, 2018. Scientists assumed the bomb had shaken up the earth, and it was taking a while to settle back down. "It's not likely that there would be so many events in that small area over a small period of time," said the lead author of one of the studies, Won-Young Kim, a seismologist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. "These are probably triggered due to the explosion."

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/09/180924153409.htm

Seismology has long been employed in the detection of nuclear tests dating back to the cold war and, broadly speaking, the seismic data is quite accurate in differentiating between naturally occurring quakes and those cause by nuclear explosions. Although similar at a glance, the seismic signatures each have their own distinctive characteristics.

While the study of the distinction between natural and artificial detonations is well established, research into the connection between earthquakes following powerful explosions remains poorly understood.

Pulling from a larger data set, and using refined techniques the latest research does strongly suggests a relationship between large man-made explosions and subsequent earthquakes. Thirteen separate quakes/aftershocks were recorded in the greater area each of them between 2.3-3.1 magnitude. Further analysis lead,

...the team to pinpoint the locations of the quakes with far greater precision than with conventional recordings. Instead of the random scatter initially seen, the quake locations lined up in a neat 700-meter-long row about 5 kilometers northwest of the blast -- indication of a hidden fracture.

Wikileaks Archive

While sifting through documents held in the Wikileaks archive, I came across a curious email containing a compilation of Q&As in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami by a powerful earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.

Unnatural Disaster? Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Nuclear Testing

https://wikileaks.org/berats-box/emailid/21463

https://www.counterpunch.org/2004/12/30/unnatural-disaster/

Released by Wikileaks in 2016 in the Berat’s Box leak, is an article originally published in late 2004 by Lila Rajiva in Counter Punch. The article covers a wide-range of questions surrounding tsunamis including history, impact, and preparedness of the affected areas including the secret US military base at Diego Garcia. Moreover, it also discusses the possibility of whether or not nuclear detonations are capable of causing earthquakes on the ocean floor, and by extension triggering tsunamis.

Here are some excerpts from the article:

Q: Is it possible for a nuclear explosion to have triggered the Macquarie quake in some way and indirectly caused the changes that led to the Sumatran quake and the Asian tsunami?

A: It is possible that a very large explosion might have triggered the first quake directly in some way or that repeated prior testing could have induced changes that led to the quake indirectly, but research on the fall-out of nuclear testing is so highly classified that little is known of the possible impact. The. U.S. has not ratified the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, leaving the door open to future U.S. testing despite an extended moratorium. There has already been a strong move toward resumption of testing since 2002. Now earth-penetrating nukes (bunker busters) and mini-nukes might provide the pretext.

WikiLeaks Berat s Box2.png

This is an interesting paragraph as it highlights that the US has not ratified the test ban treaty and the appearance miniature and tactical nukes such as bunker busters increases the possibility that testing of certain weapons is possibly occurring.

Another importing aspect here is that the detection of fallout related to nuclear testing is highly classified.

Q: Have tidal waves figured in weapons research?

A: Yes. Secret wartime experiments were conducted off the New Zealand coast to create a bomb that would trigger tidal waves, according to government files declassified in Auckland. But the tsunami bomb was never fully tested and the war ended before the project was completed. Its mastermind was Thomas Leech, an Australian University from 1940 to 1950. He set off a series of underwater explosions that caused mini tidal waves at Whangaparaoa, north of Auckland, in 1944 and 1945. Details of the research, known as Project Seal, are contained in 53- year-old documents released by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The previously unknown secret documents produced by the New Zealand government were uncovered at the national archives by author and documentary film maker Ray Waru. The files themselves date back to 1950.

The secret documents known as Project Seal provide finely detailed research on experiments conducted in New Zealand near the end of World War II (1944-1945) into the creation of a “Tsunami Bomb”. The clandestine project was conducted in cooperation with the US Navy.

Waru was shocked by the what he found stating:

It was absolutely astonishing. First that anyone would come up with the idea of developing a weapon of mass destruction based on a tsunami ... and also that New Zealand seems to have successfully developed it to the degree that it might have worked

Presumably if the atomic bomb had not worked as well as it did, we might have been tsunami-ing people

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/newzealand/9774217/Tsunami-bomb-tested-off-New-Zealand-coast.html

The documents reveal that no less than 3,700 explosions were conducted in coastal waters near the Aukland Peninsula during the course of the research.

The detailed study concluded that by placing charges at ideal depths a 10-meter tsunami could be generated by detonating 10 large explosions in coastal waters.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10857121

Finding an email where people discuss the theoretical possibility of triggering geological disasters is eyebrow raising. However, the discovery of the existence of official government documents where scientific experimentation is methodically chronicled is quite remarkable.

Although the government concluded that single explosions were unable to produce a wave with enough size to be a practical weapon the study clearly shows that the experiments were successful in creating man-made tsunamis. It’s also important to point out that Project Seal used conventional explosives (TNT) and did not conduct experiments involving nuclear grade explosives.

The experiments conducted off the coast of New Zealand in the1940s shifts the notion of man-made tsunamis from the realm of pure fiction into solid footing in reality.

Underwater Landslides

Submarine landslide.jpg

ABC.net.au

In another passage form the same 2004 Counter Punch article, the subject arises as to whether a detonated nuclear device could destabilize the seabed floor triggering massive submarine landslides capable of producing tsunami-sized waves.

Referring to atolls, ring-shaped coral reef including a coral rim that encircles a lagoon partially or completely, the article states that islands used for nuclear testing were:

…inherently unstable and may fail given an appropriate trigger like an earthquake or very large explosion. Failure is likely to cause a giant submarine landslide which may demolish parts of the island and could create a tidal wave that may itself damage coastal installations on other islands nearby.

The 2004 Sumatran Earthquake and Tsunami

To better understand the subject of underwater landslides and tsunamis perhaps it is worth describing a recent example of this phenomenon. In 2004, a massive earthquake with a magnitude 9.3 was recorded 160km off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. This caused a ferocious tsunami that wiped out portions of Banda Aceh at the northern tip of Sumatra, Thailand and Sri Lanka. The tsunami also struck the African east coast nearly 7 hours after the initial quake. The tsunami was felt in the Maldives Islands, Somalia, Madagascar, the Seychelles, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. The combined death toll from the earthquake/tsunami is estimated at between 230,000-280,000 lives.

Experts believe that the tsunami was produced when the monstrous quake caused a huge underwater landslide on the seabed floor of the Indian Ocean. The landslide caused a massive displacement of water producing the tsunami waves that devastated the region.

Historical Context: Mururoa – French Polynesia

mururoa_675109n.jpg

watchers.news

The Murumora atoll was one of the main sites used by France to conduct their nuclear testing from 1966-1996. Located about 1250 km southeast of Tahiti, his tiny island and lagoon in the French Polynesian archipelago of the South Pacific was the setting for dozens of nuclear tests both underwater and deep in the basalt rock below the island.

Mururoa.jpg

CTBTO.org

The French government has long obfuscated the true impact of the hundreds of nuclear tests conducted in the French Polynesian islands. The truth is, the nuclear tests showered vast areas of Polynesia with radioactivity.

From the same 2004 Counter Punch article comes this passage from a case brought against the French government in 1995 - Case T-219/95:

Nuclear tests, the applicants say, can cause landslides and did indeed cause a major underwater landslide at Mururoa in 1979, when a nuclear device was exploded after jamming half-way down its shaft. Since the geology of Mururoa is already unstable due to large-scale fracturing caused by previous tests, further major landslides are likely.

Such landslides in the past have given rise to tsunamis causing coastal damage in areas as far away as Pitcairn and Tahiti and endangering residences such as that of Ms. Danielsson. They can also release radioactive material into the sea, with catastrophic effects on the food chain in an area as French Polynesia where fish is an important part of the diet.

Screen Shot 20181109 at 10.17.26 PM.png

Q: What were the effects of the Murarau landslide?

A: It shifted at least one million cubic meters of coral and rock and created a cavity, probably 140 meters in diameter and produced a major tidal wave comparable to a tsunami…

Screen Shot 20181109 at 10.13.56 PM.png

Q: Can landslides create tsunamis?

A: Research on underwater landslides is new it is only in recent years that the potential catastrophic results of a landslide have become known

Screen Shot 20181109 at 10.16.39 PM.png

The accounts of what’s transpired at Mururoa after decades of nuclear testing are quite alarming. Just like the vast majority of sites used in the testing of nuclear weapons, these places are for the most part inaccessible and off limits. Even much of the research conducted by the various governments from around the world remain classified.

The legacy of the tests at Mururoa and its sister islands indicate that though nuclear tests have officially ceased, their consequences span decades and these environments may still be lethal ticking time-bombs if the aging test sites were to collapse.

Mururoa Could Collapse

mururoaholiday.jpg

Vacationorholiday.blogspot.com

Speaking on Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat program in 2012, the Mururoa e Tatou (MET) Nuclear Association's president, Roland Oldham, warned that were Mururoa to collapse, nuclear material buried deep inside the volcanic rock underneath the atoll could be released into the Pacific Ocean.

Just in that little area there is over maybe twelve underground tests in that area and we have to remember that France have done altogether 193 nuclear test explosions in Mururoa

He also expressed frustration that the report documenting the potential collapse of Mururoa has only recently come to light and is being downplayed by French officials. Mr. Oldman stated that:

This information was very discrete, I mean we only got this information now

I mean the report is from 2010, why wait so long?

So the public is not very aware of this situation.

Underwater volcano.gif

giphy.com

He also highlighted the fact that the report failed to underscore the nature of the “serious threat” posed by a potential collapse of the atoll.

In this report that we got not too long ago, they're not even talking about radioactivity,

The way they present it it's like it's not very dangerous.

Large cracks have been discovered in sections of the barrier reef and lagoon and are also suspected in the bedrock below Mururoa. A potential collapse would not only release untold amounts of radioactivity into the Pacific but, considering the discussion above on underwater landslides, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a radioactive tsunami could materialize.

Summary

tsunami disclosetv.jpg

disclose.tv

As we have seen in this article, nuclear test blasts have the ability to trigger multiple subsequent earthquakes and aftershocks. This suggests that powerful detonations could be used to trigger a cascade of seismic events from quakes, to underwater landslides to ensuing tsunamis.

Documented evidence clearly shows that a secret World War II joint venture between New Zealand and the US navy to develop a “tsunami bomb” has been uncovered in Project Seal. Man-made tsunamis were produced more than half a century ago using conventional methods and therefore could easily be created with today’s vastly superior technology.

We also saw the destructive capabilities of underwater landslides as well as the potential hazards posed by long forgotten nuclear test sites such as Mururoa.

The implications are wide ranging but one that is probably most striking is the potential use of man-made tsunamis as an enormously destructive weapon in covert military operations.

If used as a clandestine weapon, the tsunami bomb would be difficult to identify as being deliberately produced. Of course, this means that there would be certain strategic advantages of masking nuclear detonations designed to trigger natural disasters. The ability to cripple national economies, achieve geo-political objectives by means other than overt war are certainly worth considering.

Finally, another possibility is that secret nuclear testing conducted beneath the ocean floor could inadvertently trigger a sequence of events that lead to the creation of disastrous tsunamis. Much like how the French denied the 1979 tidal wave in Murruroa was anything other than a naturally occurring event, governments conducting secret tests would also have plausible deniability if they were to trigger a tsunami from test blasts.

Part II

In part 2 we’ll take a closer look at the island of Diego Garcia home to secret US military installations and where some speculate nuclear tests may be occurring.

@v4vapid

So I browsed Wikileaks, and here is a link to Venezuela blaming the U.S. for using an earthquake weapon on Haiti
https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/10CARACAS57_a.html

Great find!!!

I do remember reading about this a few years ago. Very interesting and certainly relates directly to this post! I'll definitely have to work it into Part II. Thanks so much for digging in, this is what deep dives is all about - sharing and supporting one another's research. Seriously appreciated :)

@V4Vapid ALL=ways knew You did Very Good Curation but didn't realize You write such &well researched Posts... like this one.

In my very humble & researched opinion, the Great continent of Atlantis was SUNK utilizing highly advanced weaponry by "DarkForces" similar to the same "DarkForces" we are observing today...

On the bright side, there are "LightForces" that have almost assuredly prevented WW III which should have already started... by the "LightForces"... pun intended.

These "LightForces" come from not only our own SunLIGHT but there are approximately 300 BILLION Suns in our Milky Way Galaxy. Our Solar System crossed over the Equatorial region of our Milky Way Galaxy... this occurred around December 2012 and this event only happens every 25,945 years... Earth's True History was partially confiscated during the burning down of the Great Library of Alexandria in Egypt... to keep Humanity in the Dark... again, Pun Intended.

Over the coming 3 to 9 months there will be interviews hosted by TeamSteem, Aggroed and others.

IF I may, I would like to ask You to consider either hosting some interviews or being a guest when topics You are familiar with are discussed.

I really should write about these topics but don't feel I would do a proper or adequate post on such important issues. (( I'm very critical of my lack of writing skills. ))

Thank You again for such in-depth, well research post AND Thank You 4 recently ReSTEEMing the article on Assange... would never have seen it without Your Curation/Resteem.

Cheers !!

@v4vapid, This world always reflects as Mystery because sometimes it reflects as we know all the Truth and sometimes it reflects as we know nothing and what we know is just Illusion and the actual reality is hiding in Background and Behind The Scenes. And in my opinion also the major issues are created by the humans beings only. And in my opinion where Media should highlight these kind of important subjects they choose those news which are unimportant and misleading.

Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

Superb post/concept.

Now you got me thinking a little as I never believed tsunamis and the like were natural events, in fact I had never heard of one until caught up in one in Thailand.

I shall dig with you, and try to find something that resonates along the same lines as this post, also looking forward to part two.

Excellent work my friend, as always.

Awesome, thanks. Would be interesting to see if there are any other documents or articles that cover this type of phenomena. I mean, at first glance this stuff really just sounds like Sci-Fi but as so often is the case we have government documents showing that this was actually seriously explored as a weapon. In the same vein, directed energy weapons and weather manipulation / geo-engineering come to mind also.

This post by @an0nkn0wledge is in the same ball park -

https://steemit.com/news/@an0nkn0wledge/the-dangerous-history-of-geoengineering-and-what-experiments-are-ongoing-today

Glad you enjoyed this post, I'd been meaning to write about this for several months now as I found it just as fascinating to research.

Who knows what else is out there?

Superb, thank you for the link, as I forgot to add an0n to my follow list, rectified in a moment.

I have found some interesting documents already, and will do a series of posts, as there is simply far to much to cram into one.

Not sure about it sounding sc-fi if we look back at the genius that was Tesla, and the fact the government seized so much of his work that we will never really know what he was onto.

I shall put together my first article in support tonight. :-)

Have a superb day or night.

Great post! It’s crazy to think of but certainly not hard to imagine the implications of this. The governments of the world would certainly not admit any of this manipulation for decades, if there’s one thing they enjoy it’s blaming things on natural disasters. Suspicious events surrounded the Indonesian tsunami back then but we won’t find out about it for another 30 years probably.

Years ago I read about a US navy ship that has the capability to manipulate weather and cause these types of events. I have to figure out the name of it but I would be interested in seeing what can be found about it on Wikileaks. I wrote it down somewhere but unsure of where..
With all of this included in part 1 I can’t imagine what part 2 will bring!

Superb report! I have long been interested in slide generated tsunamis, and in my homeland of Alaska the highest tsunami ever documented occurred in Lituya Bay, over 1700 feet high, caused by a landslide triggered by a quake in 1958. There are various geological formations that are both particularly susceptible to slides, and that would likely generate devastating tsunamis were they triggered. The Azores, the Canaries, particularly La Palma, could do unimaginable damage to the East Coast of the US were such to happen.

Thanks!

I can't even imagine what a 1700 ft tsunami would look like or how much damage that could inflict on a coastline! The awesome destructive power of water/waves/oceans is hard to comprehend, at least until we saw the 2004 and 2011 tsunamis impact on Banda Aceh and Japan. I will certainly be looking at these types of natural disasters with fresh eyes in the future.

An interesting and instructive geological feature of N. America is the 'badlands', carved by the immense floods at the end of the last Ice Age.

Consider what a few nukes might do to extant ice, and have a look at the ripples left across the Western USA through the Columbia River Gorge.

Thanks!

fascinating, well written, intriguing and something I have heard about previously but documented with less detail than you present here. Very interesting, especially in relation to NZ wartime experiments many, many years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if some super gizmo could induce huge waves using exotic technology, perhaps sound waves !! Congrats on a very worthy steemit article of interesting topical information :)

Imagine all that intelligence energy used for exploring destructive actions could be used to solve the most urgent problems of the world!

Documented evidence clearly shows that a secret World War II joint venture between New Zealand and the US navy to develop a “tsunami bomb” has been uncovered in Project Seal.

What makes it even more interesting, @v4vapid… New Zealand and the US practically developed a hidden weapon that can easily be used against them. What madness…

I've been aware of the 'tsunami' bombs for a number of years now, and was happy to see you dig into their existence and report on what you've found.
