Everybody wants to make money. Everyone wants to start something but is everyone succeeding?

The world tells us its a competitive market but the science of getting rich says its more creative than competitive because money actually never finishes.

So I met mama okey on one of my #streetsaturday walka. She's an O'level holder who really wants to do something for her family. Her husband is a civil servant who is comfortable to support the family
alone.
However mama okey decided to start a provision store and sell petty things in her neighborhood to give her some sense of duty and purpose for her life.

I really like mama okey, she shared so many tales about her business and her struggles. But mama okey hadn't really broken even in her business.

Why?
Firstly, you know this thing people do, one street will have five stores selling the same thing, that's just stupid.

Secondly when your competitors have better facilities than you and you do nothing to step up.

Thirdly, when your customer service is just so poor.

How on earth do you intend to make money?

But these weren't mama okey's problems. Her kiosk was located a few steps away from a really dope supermarket. Her street where filled with big men who if they wanted to go shopping or buying anything the supermarket would be their first choice.

This story is a bit long, forgive me. But the end is really interesting.....

I sat down with her and we decided to draft out a business model for her.

Her target audience were homes Within her neighborhood and this was her customer segment.
Her products were food stuff and provisions which would be her revenue stream. She wanted to have a friendly and personal relationship with her customers. We decided to create a system whereby she could deliver her products right to their door step. So we budgeted to build an app for her so her customers could just buy what they wanted online and her children, okey and his brothers would deliver it to them. Cost was basically from restocking her shop and building her app. Delivery service would cost nothing because it was within her neighborhood. She of course partnered with me to help her run this new online strategy and with some wholesalers.

It was a long day indeed. Once her model was in motion, she used guirella marketing style(street music and door to door announcement) to create awareness for the app. After one month, all our big men got so used to ordering for their household supplies from the mama okey's app. This eventually led to customer loyalty thereby increasing her online and offline sales.

I've been feeling like a genius ever since. That dope supermarket is still in business but attract a different audience now because mama okey had marked her territory in her market segment.

Let's start thinking creatively and not competitively. Stop all the 'Jazz' and the hate, its killing the market place.

Great article. But I am curious...
Isn't using a mobile app for a kiosk a bit of an overkill?

With the rate at which we are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see such...
