How I Got into My Profession | Steem Sri Lanka 3G Contest Series| Week 09

in Steem Sri Lanka3 years ago (edited)
Greetings Dear Friends on steem. It is with joy that I join this beautiful contest organized by @alejos7ven.

After school, I got a job in March 2013 with a commercial bank, which lasted till November 2015.
In 2015, Nigeria held a presidential election which removed an incumbent president.
President Muhamadu Buhari was elected and swarn into office on May same year.

As a young banker

Immediately he was swarn in, he started making lots of changes in government and policies which affected businesses (public and private sector alike)lots of businesses left the country, Some cut down their staff strength others rediuced their staffs' salaries while the rest closed down completely.

Around this period, there wasn't any job anywhere, instead people continued to loose their jobs and schools continued to produce more graduates.
Worst still, the country slid into recession, and things worsened.

With colleges

These policies affected the bank I worked with, which caused the bank to close down 23 branches Nationwide and my branch (Ikot Ekpene branch) was affected and by that time I had a post-graduate program on-going at one of the Nigerian universities.

*After the branch was closed, I left the city I lived to live with my friend in another city, he fed me and took care of me while I searched for a new job. I didn't get another job for about a year and six months. As a young man, i needed to be financially independent, so I started looking for alternative to survive other than a white collar job.
By now, I was done with the program I was doing at the University and it was all thanks to the financial help from my family.

Sine a job wasn't coming forth, I called a friend of mine Gabriel by name, who is a an Aba passed tailor, I told him I wanted to understudy him to become a tailor, he agreed to teach me free for a period of two years*

In 2017 I came down to Aba and stated learning tailoring so as to be financially dependent. Two years after, I opened my own tailoring outfit, I make shirts, senators, trousers and suits.

While I Underwent training

Because my brain was already developed and because I was self driven, I understood things quickly and time passed by quickly too that in no time, the two years passed by and I opened mine

After I opened my own shop, i adopted advertising my jobs through various social media platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram) and have been very rewarding. My first set of customers were my friends, they patronized me, and from the job I did for them, I got referals. I adopted a business name; UzCollections that's is the name of my pages on Facebook and Instagram.
Below is one of the flyers I made to help project my hand work

Achievements: though I may not have it all now, but this job have really gone a very long way helping me. Today I have rented and furnished my own apartment, I have set up a standard shop, and from the proceeds of this job, I support my sister in school and also take care of my aged parents.

In conclusion the above is how I became a tailor though I studied accounting in school but job scarcity in my country made me seek for an alternative means of survival.

I want to also cease this opportunity to thank the organizer of this context @alejos7ven and @Steem Sri Lanka for this opportunity.
Thanks you for this opportunity given me.

At this point, I am inviting @val123 @sammylinks and @tmighty to also participate in this contest.
