Hello my fellow Steemians,
I welcome you into this new week, the second week of steemit Engagement Challenge, season 15. #steem4nigeria has organized a contest for the week with the topic: The Language In My Country. And I'm glad to be one of those writing on the topic.

Language is one of the means of identification for any country. Aside flags, anthems, looks, behavior, etc, language has been the oldest factor that bounds a group of people together. Language aids effective communication amongst people who understands and can also communicate with it.

What is the name of your country? How many languages can be found in your country?

Nigeria is is the name of my country.
Over 520 languages are spoken in my country. This makes it one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. However, English is the official language of Nigeria. British in particular.
There are also three major languages spoken in Nigeria. There are Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba.

Wazobia.
This is the term we use to represent the three major languages in Nigeria....
Wa means come in Yoruba
Zo in Hausa
Bia in Igbo.

I should have classified my self amongst one of those three languages that I've mentioned. But, in my state, AkwaIbom state. We have our own languages . There are about 5 of them . And I speak 2 very fluently. Anang and Ibibio.

Among the listed languages in your country, how many are you familiar with?

I'm familiar with about 10.
There are Igbo, Hausa Yoruba, Anang, Efik, Ibibio, Fulani, Tiv, Eket, Oron.
And I can speak at least three of them ; Anang , Ibibio and Efik.

I'm currently learning the three major languages which are; Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba.
I forgot this language that's becoming the most used language in Nigeria.
It's Pidgin English
There's fun in speaking Pidgin English but boundaries when using it should be observed. As it is not a formal language. Incase we are to write any official thing.

How has this language improved/helped your life and business?

Communication: Being able to communicate in a clear manner allows me to express my ideas and thoughts effectively, thereby leading to better relationships with others.
Speaking multiple languages broadens my network and connection with a wide range of people in various cultures and it provides more opportunities for growth. Academically, professionally, etc.

Personal development: When I learn a new language, it improves my cognitive skills, creativIty and problem solving abilities. It also improves my mental agility and flexibility.

Cultural understanding: Language for me, is a key component of culture. Being able to speak more than one language enables me to understand and appreciate different cultures and
traditions.

Language improves and help both personal and professional life. As it enhances communication, expands network, provides international business opportunities, etc.
Learn many languages if you only know how to speak one.

Are you willing to teach your children these languages? Yes/No. State your reason.

Yes. I'm willing to teach my children how to speak these languages.
I mean the ones I know how to speak. Because the benefits I listed above would also be useful to them. Also, it will be a beautiful thing to communicate in different languages with my children.

I would love to invite @bossj23 @zekanem @mesola to participate in this contest

Thank you for participating in this contest and I have read your post I salute you. You can master 10 languages in your country. It's hard for us to find people who can master 10 languages like you and you can master 10 languages. It deserves a thumbs up for you. Most of those who took part This contest is from Nigeria, I see that many people can master their mother tongue, whether it is a well-known regional language in your country??

Truly, you are familiar with a wide range of languages. I respect that.

This has been a good piece. Nigeria is indeed the giant of Africa and pidgin can never be "becoming the most used language in Nigeria", It has always been and will always be 😅

All the best friend

This country named Nigeria has a rich history in term of cultures, sculptures, languages and other aspects. Being a multilinguist is just awesome. Teaching your children your mother tongue will ensure that the language doesn't go into extinct. Good luck on your post.
