ACHIEVEMENT TASKS 2 : Basic Security on Steem by @unyimeedo

Security of lives and properties is one of the essential need of man. Our important documents and files are also under the properties that we need to secure.

Good people of steemit, know this; where ever there is gold there will gold thieves and smugglers. So as you joined this platform, this is your gold and you have to take every measure possible to secure this Gold. You might want to ask me some pertinent questions about how I secured my own gold ( i.e My steemit account).

So I would go ahead to answer some of the security questions below.

Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit ?

Yes I have retrieved my keys. During the process of signing up I downloaded the PDF file containing my keys. I have since ensured that it is properly secured and protected.

Do you know each of these keys and their functions and restrictions?

Definitely yes. Infact knowing these keys and their functions was my first assignment and I can tell you boldly that I got all the facts on my finger tips.

Let me explain it;
This steemit private keys are actually arranged in an order of hierarchy, i.e base on their functions, usage and level on security needed.

First of we have the less vulnerable private posting key; this is used to perform social activities that have the least range of functions and they don't require high security . These activities are common and they do not authorized any operation that can negatively affect my token balance.

These include; posting, commenting, editing, down voting and upvoting, resteeming and following.

Then we move to the next private key which is the Active private key ;these keys take charge of all you monetary activities like transfer of your steem, power ups etc.

Then thirdly we have the memo keys;these keys are actually not in use at the moment. There are used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds.

Furthermore we have the Owner's key;

This key is used to recover all your other keys .It is recommended to keep it very safe probably offline at all times because this is the key that change all other keys including itself " Owner's key".

Then lastly we have "the master password"
You must be wondering why it is the only called "password" instead of keys. This is because it's the "seed" that is the password from whence every other password are derived. It's the seed in the sense it is the the first password that is created.

The master password can perform all tasks but this is not ideal and advisable all though it might seem convenient to use it always but this is like shooting yourself on the leg because you would just be dashing some malicious people your steemit token literally. It's then advisable to secure this password very well because if it gets into the hands of bad guys you won't be able to recover the account again.

How do you plan to keep your master password?

You can store your "master password" on your password manager like; LastPass or dashlance" but if you are not still satisfied you can go ahead to store it offline entirely and use it only for "highly trusted applications."

I have taken steps to preserve my keys.

First, have stored away in my drive. This way, I have it secure against any online attack.

I have also put saved it in my cloud storage.

Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account ?

I first logged into my steemit wallet to be able to carry out these tasks.

From your wallet page,click the STEEM or steem Dollar balance

In the down drop menu click transfer.

Type in the username of the account you are transferring to

Enter the amount of steem you want to transfer.
Enter the memo to go along with the transaction, optional though.

Then click send.

You will need your password so you can use either your master password or Active key; but to be on the safe side the Active key is preferable for security reasons.

Do you know how to power up your steem?

Yes, I know how to power up.

With steem token in your wallet, click power up option from the down arrow at the Steem power section. To turn your token into steem power.

A menu should be displayed just like that with the transfers. However, I haven't claimed any steem reward yet so I don't have enough steem to power up. However this is the steps for powering your steem wether you are doing up or down..

I believe that have been able to answer the questions on some very important aspect of steemit to the best of my knowledge and I believe this is going to be useful to me as I keep interacting with the steemit platform.
