The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

in GEMS4 years ago

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, also known as the Church of the Resurrection, is one of the 25 most popular attractions in the world and in the ranking of the most beautiful temples on the planet. An unusual temple-museum appeared at the end of the XIX century by the will of the Russian Emperor Alexander III. It was built on the spot where his father Alexander II was killed.

The temple is festive and bright, like a fairy-tale Palace. The exterior decoration of the temple is eclectic: it combines mosaics, gilding, bricks, enamels, and granite. Inside the monument is decorated with wonderful mosaics. By the way, it looks like the Moscow St. Basil's Cathedral.

I took these photos at the end of last summer. This was our first trip to Saint Petersburg with my husband. Among other attractions, I really wanted to see this magnificent temple.

When we approached it, it was already evening, so the photos are not very high quality. But there are some more photos in daylight that I took a few days later, I'll show them to you another time.
