I wanted to get here for a long long time. Finally happened. Hallstatt, Austria.

It looks amazing! How did you find out about the place and what did you like the most?
I stumbled across it on my facebook feed years ago and added it to the list of places I want to visit. I liked the narrow streets, the houses, the lake, it’s really a must see, although crammed with tourists.

If you do plan to visit, make sure to make a reservation for lunch, there aren’t enough restaurants for how many tourists roam the streets and waiting is a pain.

Hallstatt is stunning! About 6 or so years ago, I was at my SO's mom's place when we first started dating and she had this huge framed print of that iconic image of the church amongst the mountains and lake. It was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen and I told myself that one day I would go there in person. I had the opportunity last summer while studying abroad for 5 weeks in Prague. When I got to Hallstatt via train, I took the ferry over from the other side of the lake, and the moment the little town came into view it was all the feels. My eyes welled up with tears immediately and I tried to hide it behind my sunglasses because I was there alone and didn't want other tourists to be like "who is this weirdo just balling over here?" I'll never forget that day!

Visited last August and agree this place is just beautiful. Locals tell you it is overhyped, overpriced and flooded with tourists which is true. It is also true that all of that Bavaria, Tirol and Dolomites area is filled with many pretty villages. But that postcard view of Hallstatt is just perfect and so worth it. Go super early to avoid the crowd and get the misty morning sunrise.

Honestly, I wonder if it's a stop on a bus trip or something. There's nice places I used to frequently go to near where relatives lived. I distinctly remember a day where one of them was suddenly flooded with Asian tourists, and it's been like that ever since.

Funny, I just saw yesterday a documentary about Celtic culture and this was a city where they strated... I am in Austria right now with a ship near Passau. I really consider to move to Austria, it's a nice Country and the people are nice here and the nature.
