I almost forgot about the FIFA World Cup for Women this summer!
If you follow my posts here on Steemit, you have probably noticed that I enjoy writing about sports events and also focusing on how to watch these events online, and commenting on the actual results.
For many months, I considered the summer of 2019 to be a quite boring summer. After all, 2018 was the year of the FIFA World Cup, and we have to wait until 2020 for the European Championship to be arranged in football, and we also have to wait until 2020 for the next Summer Games to be arranged... so what can happen that is of interest to me this summer?
Ettie, the fantastic looking mascot of the FIFA World Cup in 2019
As I read several articles here and there, I suddenly started to understand that the summer of 2019 will not be as boring as I thought for a long time. It will all start next week with the upcoming finals of the Europe League and the Champions League. Both events will be amazing, and even though it is sad that many supporters from England have decided not to go to Baku in Azerbaijan to watch the Europe League final (simply because the travel expenses combined with the hotel and the ticket to the match itself will be too expensive), it will still be some fantastic events.
But, on the day of the Europe League final, the Asian world and also the people of England will start off watching something completely different... the opening match of the Cricket World Cup 2019. I am not that much into cricket, but I do know that it is one of the most popular sports in the world and that the people of India, Australia, New Zealand, and England will watch this event from its beginning on May 30th until its end on July 14th. It will last for 1 1/2 month, with matches being played almost every single day.
But, if you do not like cricket, you will still have the chance to watch stars like Lionel Messi in the Copa America this summer, and if you'd rather watch the Liverpool stars Sadio Mane and Mohamad Salah, then Africa Cup of Nations is the event to watch instead. These are both great tournaments, just like the European Championship in football when it is arranged.
But, what about the FIFA World Cup for women?
I have known about it for a while, but still, I have forgotten about the fact that this summer will be the summer of the FIFA World Cup for women. Knowing that female football is getting more and more attention and that more and more money is spent on female football, this is getting really interesting. Here star players from the best female clubs in the world will take part, and it will be interesting to find out if the United States can defend their title from the last World Cup back in 2015. Or, maybe it is time for Germany to win? Or can the Netherlands surprise us as they did during the European Championship in 2017 and win this entire event?
I have just published a big article dealing with how you can watch the World Cup 2019 for women online. In the article you will find information about the different groups (there are six groups with four teams in each group), you will find a full schedule of the different matches during the group stage, you can see a picture of the fantastic looking mascot of the tournament, and information about the different TV stations that will broadcast the World Cup matches in their home nations.
Now I just have to wait for less than a week, and the party will start with the "kick-off" in the cricket world cup during daytime on May 30th, then with the Europe League final in the evening, and then we all have a long, hot, and fantastic summer ahead with awesome sports events and much more coming up!
Do you have a favorite sports event that you look forward to this summer? If you had to pick, would you watch Copa America, AFCON, FIFA World Cup for women, or maybe the Cricket World Cup? Or would you watch the Formula 1 races instead?
I would love to hear from you!
