Gemini Man review - Average Will Smith action

Since I first saw the Gemini Man trailer on YouTube, I was looking very much forward to the movie. What would it look like when Will Smith tried to stay alive and maybe even catch a bad guy coming after him, only to discover that the person trying to kill him actually is a younger clone of himself? The story sounded cool, and the fact that quite a lot of the movie was recorded in Budapest (the city where I live), just made it even cooler.

So, last week I went to the cinema to watch Gemini Man. With the nachos and some salsa in my hand, I was ready to have a wonderful time!

Gemini Man - the story (some spoilers)

Will Smith is the best shooter in the world. He can kill anyone sitting on a moving train from far away. But, one day he gets to hear about how he killed a guy who shouldn't have been killed. Have his superiors fooled him into a trap? Will Smith wanted to retire and put it all behind, but now someone is trying to hunt him down.

To find out what really happened, he has to travel to Budapest to find a person who knows more about the actual person who was killed, and why the superiors of Will Smith wanted that special person to be killed.

Along the way, Will Smith is hunted down by his own clone (in a younger version). Will Smith is playing that role as well, they have just used some filters on his face to show it in a younger version. That actually is quite cool!

He is surprised to see the skills of the person, and even though he could have shot the guy, he didn't manage to. How come? There was something about the look of the guy! How will this end? Go to the cinema to find out!

Gemini Man - my thoughts

As I said earlier, I had great expectations for this movie! But, before I actually went to the cinema, I noticed that it received quite poor critics here and there online. Luckily, I don't care much about such previews, as I have no trouble enjoying a movie even though critics say it is terrible. But, with Gemini Man, there was something about those critics that I have got to say was true.

Gemini Man does have its moments, but in general, it is a movie very easy to predict. Not only is it easy to predict, but it isn't even exciting enough. My palms didn't sweat (meaning no crazy stunts took place), and it was mostly an average movie all the way through. To be honest, I had a much better time watching Angel Has Fallen (another action movie with even worse critics). But, why choose between poor movies when you can watch Joker?

Go ahead and watch Gemini Man if you really like Will Smith and want to see beautiful scenery from Budapest. But, if you don't care much about the beautiful buildings of Budapest (you can watch a Travel channel video to do that instead) nor about Will Smith, go ahead and watch something else instead.
