BYOB - I just learned a new expression!

in #byob3 years ago

I remember reading an article by @denmarkguy about how blogging really came from the word weblog, in which we all wrote down what was happening to us. In other words, a blog post is originally meant to be about a personal experience and not just someone writing something about something that hasn't got anything to do with that given person at all.

I always try to be personal when writing articles, and even though it might contain general information, I always approach it from my own perspective. So, maybe you find this post to be totally boring, but today I just wanted to share with you how I learned a new abbreviation today - BYOB!

Meeting with some friends - BYOB

It has been the most terrible spring I can ever remember in Hungary this year. So, not only did we have to be in isolation for most of the time, it was also terrible weather. Luckily, we don't have to wear masks outside anymore, but the weather is still harassing us. It should be 25-30 Celsius around this time of the year, but currently, it is 16-17 Celsius, and it might start to rain at any time. In the midst of this, I am meeting up with some friends in a park in Budapest.

As we discussed what to do, one person said that we could sit in an outdoor cafe. Then a third guy just said let's find a place and BYOB.

Quietness... nobody reacted... I guess nobody was familiar with the meaning of the expression.

I guess I had to find out what was going on, so I looked up the expression and discovered that BYOB means: Bring your own beer!

The idea is, instead of buying something expensive in a cafe or something, let us just buy something in a grocery store and bring it along and sit down and enjoy whatever we all bring! I like the idea. I am not much of a beer drinker, but I don't like spending more money than needed, and thus, I always enjoy it when I can buy more for less... so I am already a big fan of BYOB!

Bring Your Own Beer = BYOB

This might not have been the most interesting article, but it was a part of my day, and now I just wanted to share what I have learned today. Maybe you have learned something new as well if you didn't know about the BYOB expression yourself? Maybe you should invite some friends over and tell them to BYOB?

Thank you for reading, and I hope you will have a beautiful day! I am soon leaving to meet with my friends, now I just have to hope that the rain will stay far away! :)

🤣 I think that everybody in England knows that one!

They don't know Unicum though. It should be BYOU.

Wow, this comment really proves that you have thorough knowledge about the alcoholic drinks of Hungary! :)

Guess you would deserve a bottle or two before the start of Euro 2020... Only nine days left!!

A friend of a friend visited London from Hungary some time ago - she wanted to take her dad to watch Arsenal and she was visiting the weekend that Reading were playing Arsenal at the Emirates so I was able to get them some tickets in the away end. She was very happy and bought me a bottle of Unicum to say thanks.

I would be lying if I said that I would drink it again. Luckily, I was able to offload it at a poker night.

I like the way you write...
