How to accomplish your goals.
Section 1 "Goal vs Plan"
What is a goal.
When you type that sentence within Google, verbatim, the first and most eye catching hit you receive is-
"the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result."
Now what does that tell you?
Object - aim -desired.
The syntax of this statement, the vocabulary, inherently sets you up for failure.
A goal isn't able to be accomplished. What you were sold on by anyone who has those motivational topics is all shaft. They sold you an idea that is designed for you to fail.
Now this doesn't mean we should be holding them for contempt and pulling out the pitchforks, as it does give us, the right step in the right direction, if you have the brain or the intuition to dig a tad deeper into this whole concept of a goal.
What I mean by this, is you need to look at those words.
Object - Aim - Desire
If you desire this object, you aim for it.. but how are you going to aim for it if you have nothing to aim with?
This my friends, is where the accomplishment portion of my title comes in.
You need a PLAN.
Go head, open up another tab and type in this in your Googler.
"What is a plan?"
Well, for you folks that would like your hand held, this is what you get-
"A detailed proposal for doing or achieving something."
Look at that would you? A beautiful syntax centered around
doing - achieving - proposal
Let me show you something-
How many times have you heard this?
- Man I am gonna lose weight this year. 15lbs for sure!
But you see.. that same person chowing down on donuts.
Or.. my favorite
- This year I'm going to workout in the gym!
Jan 4th, this same person has never been seen in the gym after that date.
Well friendly Steemian its because they lack a plan. They desire a object, but they have nothing actionable in their head for accomplishing this object... or goal -
But not you. You're a smarty and you're going to plan everything you want to do, no matter how bad the plan is, it's better than having no plan at all.
Section 2: How to make a Plan
There's a progression I personally use, which is probably worth a lot of money, (some say ~$5000 dollars :-)) but - I'm giving it to you for free, because, I want everyone to accomplish the things they want.
So the rest why I call a goal a step in the right direction is because it is a very integral part of the process of making a plan.
Here it is.
Step 1
Establish the Goal
You need a goal before you have a plan, unless you just want to plan to do nothing...
Step 2
Adjust the Goal to be Measurable
This includes...
- Setting up a Timeframe
- Adjusting the Goal to be Measurable
Step 3
Establish a methodology to accomplish the Goal
This is where the planning begins...
Step 4
Establish what you need to accomplish the Methodology!
You can't have a actionable plan without knowing what you need to accomplish the plan...
Step 5
Evaluate your plan, weigh the good outcomes, weigh the bad outcomes
Lay out everything the plan does...
- Goods
- Bads
Understand why these outcomes occurred, and adjust your methodology accordingly to improve BOTH. - Solve things in order of PRECEDENCE
Establish an order of precedence to follow so you don't get overwhelmed by taking on 65 things at a time.
And that's it. All you have to do.. is
Execute
