Watercolor: Goo Boi
I’m a big fan of shape characters, which for me are characters that can be designed from a basic primitive shape such as a square, circle or triangle. Most of my characters start out as a primitive shape, and get fleshed out from there.
This little gooball started out as a rectangle. From there I built upon the shape by adding features and playing with those proportions until I got something I liked.
If I’m drawing on paper then I like to do pen for linework and watercolor for color. There’s a level of subtlety and imperfection in my physical drawings that I haven’t figured out how to replicate digitally, so if I need to churn out rough ideas I work in a sketchbook.
The character is from a concept I’ve been tinkering with for years called “Drained,” about a family of hairballs that have been flushed from their quaint little drainpipe, and are now adapting to life in a sprawling metropolitan sewer city.
Thanks for peepin this drawing!
Cool character... I see the rectangle. I like your "Drained" concept. I guess Drano would be like kryptonite in their world.
lol it is! I have a lot concept work for this project lying around...I’m just not really sure what kinds of posts are going to be received the best. I know I prefer brievity when it comes to posting, but I’m still trying to gauge what the art community wants. What works best for you?
The truth is that there's no magic bullet for Steemit posts. Everything you post is more professional, more original and of a higher quality than 99.99% of Steemit posts. You should be receiving hundreds of dollars per post... but that's not usually the way Steemit works. For now I believe your short posts are best so that you won't feel disappointed with putting too much work into a low earning post while you continue to build a network of supporters that will award you and hopefully will include some whales $$$ that are voting you regularly. The numbers matter as much as content when you are new on Steemit so building a high reputation number and higher Steem Power is important because money attracts money. Be consistent with your posts and look for others that you like and make comments...(as many comments and curations as you can) the more people that notice you the sooner you will blow up. You are an early adopter here and things are going to grow fast this year so if you focus on posting consistently (which you are doing) you will be able to grow exponentially. If you have time for a really long awesome post go for it because you never know what its going to hit the jackpot... but seven daily illustration posts will usually return better results for the effort. By the way, you are doing exceptionally well for a new account so don't be discouraged because this means it will not be long until your rewards are in line with your efforts.
Thanks so much for the kind words and all the advice, it's super helpful and I really appreciate it! Yeah I've been noticing the illustration posts have definitely been more consistent for me, but when the stop motion posts hit they hit hard, so I'll probably try and do a substantial post once or twice per week. I'm not discouraged and I definitely feel lucky to have gotten some attention early on.
Advice like this is helping me navigate steemit a lot better than I would on my own so thanks again!
that guy (or a very close relative at least) lives in my living room!
I kid you not!
P.S.: I've got proof!
