Take a look a Classic: Europe Universalis II

Europe Universalis II

Europa Universalis II, is one of the first videogames developed by Paradox Development Studio, which is part of Paradox Interactive, which is in charge of the game, which like this videogame is mostly real-time strategy, with this game which were my beginnings in the games of Paradox (Later I would play Hearts of Iron and Victoria), which are characterized by being games with historical and geographical veracity (that is to say, it presents perfectly the territories of the countries of the time), and its realism in terms of religion, politics, economic characters, among others.

In this videogame we will control a series of Kingdoms, Religious Orders (Teutonic Order and Knights Hospitaller), Republics (Although they will only be in Italy, for example, Venice and Tuscany, for most of the game), Dukes and Empires, with which we will have to rule the destiny of our country and try to take it to greatness from the times of the Hundred Years War to the Napoleonic Wars. As rulers of our nation we will control the internal and external politics of our country, and we will have to intervene in religious disputes, strengthen our army to conquer new territories through wars with our enemies (These conquests will be easier if we have claims over enemy territories) and send missionaries to try to change the religion of a region by force to make their attempts at rebellion more difficult.

History

We will be starting at the end of the Hundred Years War, we will see a divided France, an Italy free to be conquered by the European powers, a Holy Roman Empire controlled by the Hapsburgs, a Russia divided but about to be united by the Romanov Dynasty of the Duchy of Moscow, China and Korea devastated by Japanese Pirates, a Scandinavia controlled by the Union of Kalmar, The last vestiges of the Byzantine Empire being whipped by the Ottoman Empire, among other events...

We will see the evolution of all these regions, and we will be able to change history or follow it to the letter, recreating events and battles that occurred in reality as the Wars of Religion of France, the War of the Seven Years, the Great War of the North, The Ottoman Conquest of the Balkans, The Taking of Granada, The Beginning of the Colonization of America, Africa and India, The Wars of Spanish, Austrian, Polish and Bavarian Succession, among some other important events (although some more than others), in the history of humanity. We will see a series of interesting Nations, France, Castile and Aragon (Spain), England, the Pontifical States, the United Provinces (Netherlands-Netherlands), the Duchy of Moscow (Russia), the Archducate of Austria, the Duchy of Milan, the Kingdom of Hungary, among others. Throughout this period they would fight each other to maintain influence in Europe and control trade routes and territories, each in a different way.

Source

For example, Spain; After the conquest of the Emirate of Granada, the last Muslim territory in the Iberian Peninsula and the union of the Crowns of Castile and Aragon, Spain would emerge as one of the largest powers in Europe, with great wealth and a solid naval force, The arrival of explorers and conquerors would begin to seek new trade routes, to expand trade in Spain, Christopher Columbus, Américo Vespucio, Juan Ponce de Leon, Francisco Pizarro, Hernán Cortés, Alonso de Ojeda, Juan de la Cosa, Vasco Núñez de Balboa, among others. They would explore, conquer and colonize, in the name of the Spanish Crowns, seeking to expand their territories and make Spain the largest and most powerful Empire in history, which they would achieve with the conquest and founding of Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Spain, Puerto Rico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, the Philippines, the Philippines, the South of the United States of America, different commercial positions in Africa and India, among others. Succeeding in forming the so-called "Empire where the Sun never sets", although it would later remain a power, it would decline due to the long and costly wars, the reduction of the entry of gold and silver from the colonies and the looting of ships of ships transporting gold by Corsairs (Pirates who served a nation in times of war) English.

England; Although he would suffer greatly from the War of the Two Roses (A Civil War for the control of the English Throne), and the loss of his possessions in France after the Hundred Years' War, he would recover thanks to commerce and a period of peace, then begin a period of colonization led by Isabel I and the pirate Walter Raleigh who would defeat the Spanish Invincible Navy and begin the project of colonization of North America, beginning with the current states of Virginia and North Carolina which would culminate in the Thirteen Colonies based on the claims of North America for the ancient travels of Juan Cabot and Sebastian Cabot (Father and son of Genoese origin), who served as explorers and cartographers, in favor of the English crown), and this period of growth and wealth would be helped by the looting of Spanish gold transport ships and ports of cities in the American colonies, due to English privateers such as Francis Drake, Henry Morgan and Christopher Newport, who were licensed by the English state to weaken the Spaniards in times of war, and thus begin the formation of the Second "Empire where the Sun never sets", and this would not have its decline until the twentieth century, after the Second World War.

France; As it emerged victorious from the Hundred Years' War, it would emerge as the greatest power in Europe, with claims to both the wealth of Northern and Southern Italy, the Netherlands of the Habsburgs (first part of the Duchy of Austria and then of the Kingdom of Spain) and Western Germany (where there were a number of counties, duchies and protectorates part of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire), although it would fail to dominate these territories and would be forced to forget its claims to Italy, still had the richest territories in Europe and just as England would begin its colonization mainly in North America where first Giovanni da Verrazzano and later Samuel de Champlain, would help explore the territories that would make up the Colonial Empire in North America called "New France", which would be from Quebec (Eastern Canada) to Louisiana (Southern United States) and also dominate territories in South America as French Guyana and Caribbean Islands as half of Hispaniola (Haiti), Guadalupe, Martinique, Dominica, among others. And they would come to dominate much of Europe under Napoleon Bonaparte during the Napoleonic Wars that originated the independence revolts in South America in the Viceroyalties and Capitanies of the Spanish Empire, because Napoleon would conquer Spain between 1807-1808, Although France would lose these wars it would have already done massive damage to all its enemies, causing Spain to lose the majority of its Empire, supporting the uprising of the United States of America against the English, would dissolve the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, among others.

Playability

The videogame consists of trying to be the maximum dominant European power, and to get as many points as possible to crown us as the most successful kings of the videogame, this is achieved by conquering territories, winning both land and naval battles, exploring unknown or unexplored areas with both explorers and conquerors, completing missions, colonizing the new or unexplored continents and regions (Europe, Africa, Oceania and Siberia), among others. But we can also set goals like simply playing for a small nation like Milan or Hanover and try to expand and survive against the other powers.

We will have different doctrines for the armies as preferring quality over quantity and vice versa, and we can benefit more the terrestrial or naval part depending on what we need for example, if we are England we should go to the naval, to make sure that nobody steps on our island and our probable Colonial Empire. We can also decide whether we want a mercantilism (Strong state intervention in the economy) or a free market, whether our government will be formed mainly by aristocrats (Nobles, called aristocrats due to the eagerness or love for study in the Modern Age) or bourgeois (Merchants and artisans who achieved local power in different cities, towns or territories), whether we want to centralize or decentralize our nation, whether our subjects will be placed in the state of free citizens or servitude, among others. Each of the above things give different advantages and disadvantages, both in research, income, recruitment, etc. eIt is a very educational videogame to learn mainly about History and Geography due to its very accurate maps and to show important events in the history of humanity and it is well worth trying it because it is quite interesting.
