Steemit Should be the New Soundcloud
Artists should release new tracks on steemit. Utilize the free blockchain and get paid to promote your music to a community that LOVES original work.
Soundcloud is on its way out. The site that's attracted millions of the world's independent music fans has been losing 30 million dollars a year for five years. This is proof that ad-selling is not a viable business plan for a website. Soundcloud users should migrate to steemit where they get paid to upload or curate content. Imagine getting paid for every upvote on your music? Imagine getting paid every time you upvote a track? And, if a whale comes along and likes your track, bam! instant $10 upvote. Isn't it time for social media to pay us for creating quality music that people like to hear?
In the meantime, someone should create a 'frontend' that combines access to the steem blockchain with file storage options in a neat UI. Like a soundcloud or bandcamp but people could upvote posts in STEEM. Even if the site owner took like 15% of the rewards, that would be a fair deal for the artists who are getting author awards + getting free hosting for their original tracks. Then, once the voting period is over, the site would continue to host the content like your profile in soundcloud. You couldn't get paid on in it in upvotes anymore but you could continue to get the free exposure. Maybe the site sells ads, too, or maybe its like bandcamp where users can purchase the music from artists using a choice of STEEM/SBD or USD.
I'm sure smart people are already on such a thing but until we get a soundcloud on the steem blockchain, soundcloud producers and promoters should post their music on steemit. Reupload it to viewly or lbry or mixcloud so you don't lose your copy when soundcloud goes down and then post the link on steemit.com. Free cryptocurrency!

The amount of applications for blockchain is far reaching.
Opens up how we organize our movement/direction in a variety of ways. Brings into question the structure of money and value. Efficiency talks.
good points about steem and steemit it has a lot of utility...was easier to transfer value beyond boarder...also encourages entrepreneurship without fat middle men . I see steemit is a sort of free market world wide social insurance.
I'm an instrumental musician, and I've been also interested to see if someone develops a blockchain based music streaming service.
I and many others have uploaded original music here and have often gotten nothing or very little for it. I upload my art more than my music, because it just seems like visual stuff does much better on platforms like this than music does, and art is so easy to make, But yeah, if it was on a site where the focus was more on the music, who knows.
However, what i'd really like to also see, is that if there ever is a streaming service like that and it has a good interface, and music fans (not just artists) actually use it, is the ability to continue to earn on each track instead of just 7 days like it is here on Steemit.
And if something like that ever happens, I sure hope every vote counts equally for voting up music tracks, because that's fair.
Or, maybe there could be something of a possible discount earned on the purchase of the music during the upvote period proportional to your voting power. So, if someone upvotes the entire price of the record, they can receive it for free, 50% upvote gets a 50% discount, etc. Then, after the upvoteperiod (which I think exists to prevent vot-bot abuse), the record would continue to be for sale on the site. You could still redeem your discount if you had voted earlier but it would be full price for anyone new.
