Introduction

Today I will be talking about Nioh. This is not the final build for the game so my thoughts may change when the game launches later this year.

What is Nioh?

Nioh is a action role playing game developed by Team Ninja, they developed the Dead or Alive series they also developed the Ninja Gaiden series. Nioh is published by Koei Tecmo, they also published the Dynasty Warriors series and the Fatal Frame series just to name a few. Nioh has been in development since 2004, and it was re-anounced at the Tokyo Game Show 2015.

The Story So Far

You play as a English samurai named William Adams, during the Warring States Period of Japan in the year 1600 A.D.

Gameplay

Nioh plays like Dark Souls, in the sense that every time you decide to confront an enemy in battle you face the risk of dying. In Nioh stamina is replaced with ki, depending on how much ki you have will determine the outcome of the battle. You loose ki as you swing your sword; dodge an attack, or block an attack. Once you run out of ki you are vulnerable to attack.

I am fighting a Revenant of a player who recently died in the game.

There are three battle stances which are; high stance, mid stance, and low stance. Each stance has its own strengths, and weaknesses. For example high stance is great for killing foes quickly, but it consumes a high amount of ki.

This is a shrine here you can make offerings, and improve your stats.

All three add a sense of realism to the game.
