Life
Hi, my name is Brandon I am 29 and I am from Indiana and this is my first steem. It is almost 5am here, I’m lying on a couch in my wife’s hospital room for what is now the sixth morning in a row. She gave birth to our first child a 9 lb baby boy 6 days ago. He was born with water on his lungs from which he is recovering slowly. Which has given me a lot of time to really think about my life as a new parent.
I am now responsible for the well being of this beautiful little life. It’s my job to be there to help shape his understanding of this world that he is now apart of. Yet, how can I be expected to do that when I myself am still trying to figure what the hell we are all doing here?
It is so easy to go through life just accepting everything that is considered “common knowledge” and to never truly stop and literally question why something is a certain way. I am not knocking religions but “because, that’s the way God made it” has always been such a cop out of an answer to me. I understand the church is hugely traditional espeacially here in the Midwest. We grow accustomed to doing exactly as our parents did and so on and so forth like a broken record player. I think it’s time we stop and literally look and think about what we put our faith in.I have tried to have many conversations about earth, space, and spirituality with close friends and family. Everytime it seemed as if they were internally conflicted about even talking about any of this with an open mind.
It can be very scary and overwhelming when you really start to use your mind and think for yourself. Although to me even scarier yet, is a world where the masses are afraid to constantly challenge their own belief system and can not admit that they truly “Don’t honestly know”. I rely on the fact that the truth is out there waiting to be found. I know that there is so much conflicting information about literally everything, but don’t be deterred.Stay curious especially if something doesn’t sit right with you. Admit to yourself that you don’t know everything and that it’s okay. It is my hope that we all start to think a little more and not just accept what we have been told for so long. I hope you all get a chance to slow down and just keep an open mind and always try to be a student of life :)
