Curious of our experience in the desert of Jordan?

What is one of the most beautiful destinations of Jordan? Wadi Rum!

So that is where we went of course.
Even before we arrived at the visitor center, we were stopped by some mafia boss. We opened the window so far that just our nose could pass through. When it turned out that he wanted to sell us a desert trip, we quickly drove away. Once arrived at the visitor center, there were many men running around in their desert dresses and we were soon locked in. 15 people tried to offer a variety of trips and hotels apart from each other... But who actually belonged with our booking, because we already had a booking! It was 1 big chaos... We almost gave up and wanted to leave our desert trip. One of the many Achmeds or Mohammeds gave us another chance and after we got his brother on the phone, our booking was confirmed. We climbed into the 4W drive and tore through the sand to our tent camp.

OK ... breath... we had survived this too. Once arrived at the camp, there was no stress any more at all and we soon went into the chill-mode. We read our book and drank cups of tea with the usual 30 clumps of sugar. Then the owner of the camp came to us with the question: "You want to join us to climb on the mountain?" Uuuuuuh Sure! With another 2 girls we started a climb. But what kind of climb was this?! Steep up, rocks with hard points... This was not for people, this was for mountain goats !!! Anyway... if we made a mistake and fell down we were probably dead. We have literally never been this terrified in our lives. But the good news is; We did it and made it back alive! What was the use of climbing this mountain.... We still do not know. Although the view was pretty nice but we could not really enjoy it.

Once down we could instantly go back to the jeep to enjoy a beautiful sunset in the desert. Our driver was not impressed, since he sees it every day. He had fallen asleep during this beautiful sunset on the top of a rock. Patience is really a clean matter. Fortunately, impatient fellow travelers woke him up and we arrived safely at the camp again.

After we have eaten a small buffet we went into the desert in total darkness. In the middle of the sand we could enjoy a beautiful and bright starry sky. Of course there was also a campfire and there had to be sung.

Satisfied, we slept in our tent in the middle of the desert dreaming of the many things we did that day. It was very cold but again a whole experience.

The next day the jeep tour was waiting for us. Together with 3 older Germans we made a big trip through the desert and saw the most beautiful things. Nikki even drove into the desert in the 4W drive, we climbed a heavy sand dune and we stood on a natural bridge. Around 1 o'clock we were back on our 'base', but what was missing from our Jordan wish list? Riding on a camel of course !! We have also been able to do that as quickly as possible. Half an hour hopping through the desert is enough. Because it may look nice, but it's really not! You feel every bite of the camel... and ... Do camels have 1 bump or 2? Two! ;-)

This was a beautiful end to our Jordan trip and it was time to go back to Amman. After a 4 hour drive in our car we arrived there safely and we had two more nights booked.
In Amman we visited the citadel (highest point of the city), enjoyed a water pipe (or as Nikki would call it: blowpipe), ate a lot of delicious baklava and we tried to find some alcohol in this country; mission failed.

In the lobby just before departure to the airport, we talked about all the beautiful moments of Jordan. It's a country and culture that you should definitely get used to. Especially the transition of men to European women ... Throughout the day, they are whistling, speaking, watching you and trying to attract your attention. After a week we had enough of it. Despite that, a beautiful country which is definitely worth a visit!
