Even after years of living in Portland; I was unfamiliar with the nearby town of Yarmouth. During a recent visit I discovered it had an extensive system of trails, so thought it would be a fun adventure to explore the area with my mother.

First we snuck into the old mill near where we had parked. An old building repurposed into offices, we had to hold on to handrails to go up it's creaky, winding staircase.

As many can likely tell, some of my pictures are doctored in photoshop to bring out the color and light my camera could not capture. However, often I leave the images relatively untouched to preserve the moodyness and feeling of a misty, foggy day.

We admired the waterfalls along the bridge as we headed toward what appeared to be a trail along the Royal River.

The old mill in the back looked a bit like a castle in a fairy tale.

Odd how absense of light and filters can change a fairy tale into a Steven King film.

Mom insisted I take a photo of the ducks; please forgive me I am using the camera on my phone. Someday I will get a professional camera again. I love the triangles they make on the water.

We eventually came upon another beautiful waterfall and a dreamy park that reminded me of the trippy "Magic Cookieland" books my grandmother had on her coffee table when she lived in St George. My mother loved the sounds of the rushing water.

Near the end of the Royal River Park was the Yarmouth Historical society. We stopped in to use the facilities and visit the museum

We then wandered down Yarmouth's short, but charming Main street.

We were so pleased to see there was a bookstore; a rarity these days; so we had to stop in.

The rest of the walk to the car was like a step back in time.

Looks like a great place to wander around! :)

Yeah, the historical society had a booklet of all these other trails we could go on. Maybe next time.
