Bonsais at the Montreal Botanical Garden
Larix Laricina
The Montreal Botanical Garden, one of the largest museums of its kind in the world, has an extensive bonsais (also known as penjins) collections. The above mentioned bonsai is commonly known as an American Larch and is native to Canada, mostly found in the North (all three territories of the country) and in Newfoundland, but also in Alaska and North Eastern states. The "full" version of this plant can handle up to -65 degree Celsius weather and can grow up to 20 meters in height. Although it can handle cold, it needs plenty of sun and is used by certain First Nations tribes to make snowshoes due to his flexible thin strips.
