steemgigs posting for proofreading/copyediting
No, I'm not going to post any spiffy videos or memes here.
@thatsweeneyguy has already posted this steemgig, and given the plethora of material in need, I'm jumping into the pool now. He set his rate at $1 STEEM per 150 words. That seems very reasonable. I can read French fairly fluently (ma mere a etais francaise), German somewhat fluently (auf hochschul zwei jahren hab' ich studiert), a smattering of Russian and Spanish- so, supplying the original pre-translation could greatly aid in preserving your original intent. It is not absolutely necessary, though.
More and more, I notice how quality posts may suffer greatly from inadequate proofreading and basic copyediting (or proof-reading and copy-editing for the true usage purists who would reject industry-standard usage substitutes), especially translations into English- but native speakers and writers often dash something off with little regard to spelling, grammar, usage, and the other points of basic communication.
I find that's inexcusably disrespectful of the readers. I don't care how cute and fun you may think it is to randomly mix case and substitute symbols and numerals for letters, when that's all your post consists of, I get a headache- and stop reading. There's much to commend sparing use of such devices, but unless this is a visual poem or some such creative exercise, too much is simply painfully annoying.
When translation results in poor readability in the new language of a post, it may disguise the value of that post to some degree. I would especially like to help non-English speaking creators generate the superior-quality English submissions as long as we're shooting for global penetration and interaction, and as long as English is a globally-used language. We might all have to shift to Chinese or Hindi in a generation or two, but until then, this is a need I see for a service I genuinely enjoy performing.
Thanks for the mention! If I ever get overloaded, I'll send some work your way.
Thanks for noticing so quickly. I can't be real-time about this much, (all I do between 4 and 8:30 AM is sleep anyway, so there's that...), but I'll try to check in half a dozen times a day. I AM really thrilled that even with the potential pitfalls so obvious, Steemians as a rule seem truly motivated to do "the bestest for the mostest" to counter the predator paradigm of the old economy (and society).
I wish I could sleep between 4 and 8am... I'm typcially half way through my 10 hour shift around 9...
Just move 5000 miles east, your employer can adjust easily. Problem solved!
