Food is vital for survival. In the past, the Chinese saying, “People regard food as heaven” (民以食为天) implies food as the most important thing for survival. But nowadays the same saying that equates food with heaven can have new implication. Instead of thinking of survival, people go after good food today as a form of enjoyment. A place that attracts many people including tourists for eating is known as a food heaven.

Surely, food is a form of enjoyment as well as for showing hospitality and building friendship. But the irony is that by consuming too much delicious food can result to a negative effect. People tend to become unhealthy because they eat too much.

The perspective of food has been changed from being inevitable for survival to a form of enjoyment for living. In view of the irony of eating too much may turn happiness to sickness, then what is the real meaning of food?

As it is said, “For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” Let’s examine our perspective on food!

食物对生存至关重要。过去中国人说:”民以食为天”，即意味着拥有食物是生存不可缺少的條件。然而现在，把食物比作天已经有了新的含义。人们如今不再因为食物而多考虑生存问题，反而是着重追求美食，把食物作为一种享受。如果一个地方能吸引许多人包括游客去品尝食物，那地方则会被称为”食物天堂”。

当然，享用美食是一种享受，也可以作为好客和建立友谊之道。然而相当讽刺的事，即食用过多可口的食物会导致不良影响。人们往往因为吃得太多而变得不健康。

如今人们对食物的看法已经从它是生存的必需品转变为是享受生活的物质。鉴于上述吃得太多的讽刺，即因为吃得太多而把快乐变成了疾病，到底食物的真正含义是什么呢？

诚如所言，「因為生命勝於飲食，身體勝於衣裳。」就让我们省察自己对食物的看法吧！
