The History of Kusadasi

Although it is not known exactly when and by whom Kuşadası was founded, it is thought that it was founded by Ions with the name of Neopolis connected to Ephesus in the place called Yilanci Burnu near Kuşadası.

The city was built before, on the skirts of Pilavtepe, at the place called Andızkulesi. After a while the Venetian and Genoese who belonged to the Byzantines were dominant in economic terms. Kuşadası with the reasons of transportation difficulties; It was taken from Andızkulesi district and it was established with the name of Scarpa Nuova.

The Kusadasi Bay and its immediate surroundings, which Kusadasi gave its name, are known as centers of art and culture and have hosted many different civilizations since the early ages.

In the 15th century, the Venetians and Genoese took the name of the city "Scala Nuova".

In 1086, the territory of the 1st Süleymanşah was added to the Seljuk State and Turkish domination started. The region became an export gate to the Aegean region of the caravan routes in this period. However, the sovereignty of the Seljuk State took a short time due to the 1st Crusades and again passed into the hands of Byzantium. At the end of 1280 the Menteşeoğulları, at the beginning of 1300 Aydınoğulları region dominates. Between 1397-1402 he entered the Ottoman Empire. Although the Ottomans passed away from the Aydınoğulları between 1402 and 1425, the Ottomans certainly captured the region.

Kuşadası, in 1413, 1.Mehmet (Çelebi) has participated in the Ottoman sovereignty. After this date, the city was completely in the hands of the Turks and started to fill with the works of the Turks. These surveys were made by Mehmet Pasha, who caravans today's Caravanserai and Kuşadası.

The city surrounded by walls was only accessible from three doors. One of these doors separates Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Street and Kahramanlar Street and the upper part is used today as the City Traffic Regions Authority. Other gates are not available today.

In the small town of Güvercinada, which served as an important military base for the Byzantines, in 1834 saw a major renovation and the famous castle was built. The name "Kuşadası" comes from this town.

Kusadasi entered the occupation of Greece during the War of Independence between 1919-1921, with the withdrawal of them from Italy, and on September 7, 1922, the enemy occupation was rescued.
