“There is no proper role for tyranny in the lives of people. As soon as you yield to the forces of compulsion in the name of life, you have lost your life, for it belongs to those who control you. Life is liberty. Without liberty, your life belongs to another. Liberty is to be defended at all costs and at all times.

Govern yourself, for this is the nature of an individual. You and you alone control your actions and your mind. This is right, proper and good. You have a responsibility to defend your liberty at all times. If you do not, it will be destroyed. To yield defense of your liberty to another is an absolute invitation to tyranny.

Personal sovereignty is the end of evil. When every person on earth will defend themselves and those they love. When evil cannot gain even a foothold because all people are watching for it, and recognize that it seeks to destroy their value. This is the exact opposite of perfect evil, in which every person is a slave and a master of slaves. Perfect liberty is life, and in it there are no slaves and no masters of slaves. Perfect liberty is life."

Truth is a choice. Truth is also the objective, immutable, unwavering reality of what has actually occurred. Still, seeking the truth is not something that someone has to accept and live their lives according to.

Natural Law is a set of those truths which one can seek to discover and modify their behavior to be in alignment with - or not. It is not a requirement of our current existence to live in accordance with the Laws of Nature. If we do not, however, then we will find ourselves faced with the possible extinguishment of the human species.

Natural Law is model for describing our reality. Our concepts of it may be flawed, but it's existence and effect in our lives is present regardless of a human beings interpretation of it. Through study, through being honest with ourselves, and through discerning observation of our lives we can come to know and understand it.

Let's break down the phrase, "Natural Law" and define our terms.

  • Natural: Inherent; having a basis in Nature, Reality and Truth; not made or caused by humankind.
  • Law: An existing condition which is binding and immutable (cannot be changed).

What is Natural Law?

Let's take the working definition that I feel best encompasses what NL is in a short and concise way. I pulled this from Mark Passio's Natural Law Seminar / Natural Law the REAL Law of Attraction (which I recommend watching). Some of the other slides in this article are pulled from Marks other works which he has openly stated are freely available for people to repurpose for teaching others about Natural Law.

"Universal, non-man-made, binding and immutable conditions that govern the consequences of behavior. Natural Law is a body of Universal Spiritual Laws which act as the governing dynamics of Consciousness."

I feel like that definition is good, but to punctuate it I'll list what I get back at the top of my web search:

  nat·u·ral law
  noun
noun: natural law; plural noun: natural laws
1. body of unchanging moral principles regarded as a basis for all human conduct.
2. an observable law relating to natural phenomena.

That's pretty close to what I first presented as a definition. The emphasis should be that Natural Law is immutable/unchanging and therefore can not be changed by a belief or human made construct. Human beings don't get to decide upon what these laws are and whether or not they apply to our lives.

The 7 Hermetic Principles as presented in The Kybalion provides a great model for understanding Natural Law.

The Seven Hermetic Principles, upon which the entire Hermetic Philosophy is based, are as follows:

  1. The Principle of Mentalism.
  2. The Principle of Correspondence.
  3. The Principle of Vibration.
  4. The Principle of Polarity.
  5. The Principle of Rhythm.
  6. The Principle of Cause and Effect.
  7. The Principle of Gender.

For the purposes of this article I'd like to focus on #6 "The Principle of Cause and Effect"

"Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law."
~The Kybalion

More from the book the Kybalion on the principle of Cause and Effect:

"This Principle embodies the fact that there is a Cause for every Effect; an Effect from every Cause. It explains that: "Everything Happens according to Law"; that nothing ever "merely happens"; that there is no such thing as Chance; that while there are various planes of Cause and Effect, the higher dominating the lower planes, still nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. The Hermetists understand the art and methods of rising above the ordinary plane of Cause and Effect, to a certain degree, and by mentally rising to a higher plane they become Causers instead of Effects. The masses of people are carried along, obedient to environment; the wills and desires of others stronger than themselves; heredity; suggestion; and other outward causes moving them about like pawns on the Chessboard of Life. But the Masters, rising to the plane above, dominate their moods, characters, qualities, and powers, as well as the environment surrounding them, and become Movers instead of pawns. They help to PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE, instead of being played and moved about by other wills and environment. They USE the Principle instead of being its tools. The Masters obey the Causation of the higher planes, but they help to RULE on their own plane. In this statement there is condensed a wealth of Hermetic knowledge--let him read who can."

There is no escape from causation. We are living in the plane of material effects. The Principle of Mentalism helps us to understand that that causation is first mental before any material manifestation takes place.

Our ability to create what we want has to first happen in the mind before we can manifest it in our lives. We can consciously great a world of freedom or a world of slavery. These things can be created consciously by a knowing wielder or unconsciously by an unknowing dupe. The study of Natural Law for my purpose is to try and always be consciously creating a world with more order and freedom rather the a world of chaos and destruction.

I'd like to cover what our rights are as well as what they are not in this next section. Understanding what we do not have the right to do helps us to understand more about how Natural Law operates.

We do not have the right to initiate force (violence) on someone else. This is wrong and will always be wrong. A right is an action that you can take that does not cause harm to someone else.

Your rights come from your agency of the body that you operate. Your rights are the actions that can be taken with that body that fall in line with Natural Law. The word "right" is an action noun. An action that can be taken which is morally correct. That which is correct is equivalent to that which is right and what we call our "rights".

There are an infinite amount of actions that one could take that would not cause harm to another and therefore are in alignment with Natural Law. This is why it's easier to understand what your rights (actions that are in alignment with NL) are by using the apophatic approach. This is the process of understanding something by defining what it is not.

If our rights are that which does not cause harm to someone else then we'll have to define what harm is.

Harm being defined as using coercion, murder/assault, theft, trespass, or rape against someone else.

In order for a Natural Law violation to have taken place some form of property must have been harmed. Therefore you could reduce "coercion, murder/assault, theft, trespass or rape" into one single category. Theft. All of these forms of wrong doing (NL transgressions) are a form of theft of a living being or their property.

In that case, we could reduce all of Natural Law into one single law that encompasses the entire philosophy; Do Not Steal.

When you exponentially multiply the number of Natural Law transgressions done by a society or a human population as a whole then the consequences will also exponentially multiply and nature will intelligently respond to this cause with the desired effect and outcome of those choices and actions.

To use coercion, murder/assault, theft, trespass or rape is to act from fear, ignorance, confusion and control. These expressions are known as the "Negative Expressions" of Natural Law. Using these expressions to manifest reality can only lead to chaos in our lives. There is no way to create order and good when your actions are based in these expressions.

Additionally, we can use Love, Knowledge, the understanding of our personal Sovereignty and Freedom to create order and good in our lives. There is no other way to manifest these things unless you are using these expressions.

"Tiredness and fatigue are effects caused by ignorance of Nature and
disobedience to her inexorable law. You may command Nature to the
extent only in which you are willing to obey her. You cannot
intelligently obey that which you do not comprehend. Ask of Nature
that you may be one with her and she will whisper her secrets to you
to the extent in which you are prepared to listen. Seek to be alone
much to commune with Nature and be thus inspired by her mighty
whisperings within your consciousness. Nature is a most jealous god,
for she will not whisper her inspiring revelations to you unless you
are absolutely alone with her." ~ Walter Russell

Within the subset of Natural Laws is a law known as The Law Of Freedom.

The Law Of Freedom is where you can find a reason for why you might want to modify your behavior and the behavior of others to be more in alignment with Natural Law.

A very simple way of saying what this law is:

  • As Morality increases, Freedom increases.
  • As Morality declines, Freedom declines.

Adherence to these natural principles will either result in order or chaos in our lives. They are not up to us because we did not put these laws into place. We can choose through our free will to live in harmony with these laws which will result in freedom, order and everything that we call good. Choosing to ignore them and continuing to imagine that we can do whatever we feel like based on our likes or preferences will only lead to more chaos and suffering in our lives.

It's actually calming and humbling to accept that this is just that way it is. It's nothing to get upset over or rage against. Nature will always provide the lesson that needs to be learned by the person, group of people, or the entire species depending on the input of behavior those people are generating.

When we look at the conditions of our current society today and we are honest about our assessment, what logical conclusion follows based on the the understanding of the Law of Freedom? The only conclusion I can come to is that the vast overwhelming majority of people do not understand Natural Law and are immoral because of this.

An immoral people who continuously violate the rights of others can not be free and will absolutely be enslaved by the forces they are creating with.

Living in opposition to Natural Law leads to: control, enslavement, war, evolutionary stagnation, and extinction.

Living in harmony with Natural Law leads to: Freedom, peace, prosperity, survival, and evolutionary progress.

“Accept responsibility for yourself and your actions, thoughts and words. You alone make choices. You alone are answerable to the consequences of your behavior. The feeble excuse that your boss required it, the establishment expected it, holds no truth or justification.” - David Icke

We are free to continue ignoring Natural Law and to every degree that we violate it we suffer the consequence. Freedom and Natural Law are directly proportional. Ignorance of Natural Law and continuous violation of it will lead to the consequences which will inevitably be a loss of Freedom. The only way to become free as a person and then as a society is to understand and live according to these laws. We don't have to do that, but then we will never truly be free and we will be at the hand of the natural effects we have caused through our behavior.

The understanding of Natural Law is the ONLY thing that can resurrect this species and put us on a new path towards a prosperous and thriving future for all living things on the planet.

The Law is King and can never be dethroned from it's proper place at the highest level of creation and the highest level of authority in the universe.

great post!

Epic post! People's ego have a hard time dealing with the fact that they are not the arbiters of truth and that truth/objectivity exists independently of their perception. Understanding natural law is also a process of self-discovery and introspection that helps to comprehend how aspects of the external world are nested in the psyche of one's own internal world which allows a deeper understanding of the human condition and WHY we are choosing to experience it this way.
