After seeing how much I enjoyed my "grow in a maze" kit I posted about last month, my good friend @ruth-girl gifted me a "make your own greenhouse" kit which of course I LOVED! So, today I finally found the time to play with it and make a proper unboxing/review post.

First a few words about the kit. You can buy it on many places from, for example on amazon for about 25 $ and as its name indicates its an educational kit for introducing kids to the basic principles of how greenhouses work, photosynthesis and how they can grow their own plants from seeds.

So let's first see the box, front side:

And the backside:

Overall the box is very shinny and eye catching. Ok, now let's open it up!

Unfortunately I noticed only after I started writting this post how much this photo sucks :D As you might not be able to see, the box comes with:

  • The stuff you need to build the greenhouse
  • 6 plastic pots and unfortunately only 3 peats to grow your plants
  • A packet of seeds (Basil and dwarf Nasturtium)
  • Instruction manual, which also includes basic info about how seeds turn into plants, greenhouse principles and other basic botanical information. Very kid-friendly, everything is laid out with nice pics and laymans terms.
  • Some other plastic thingies like a pipette,  tweezers for seed handling and a plastic miniature shovel/spoon thingie

Ok, let's build the greenhouse!

Simple but effective design! It took me only 3 minutes to set up and that was without reading the instructions. So, either I am a genius or it's simple to build. The plastics are of relatively good quality and fit nicely. Ok, time to grow some seeds!

So I used the ones included with the kit:

And also some lavender seeds I happened to have forgotten in a drawer:

After watering the peats, I placed them in the plastic pots and the pots inside the greenhouse:

Then I closed the greenhouse and placed it in the sunniest window of my house:

All that is left is to wait and see what happens! I will keep you updated!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think this is a great STEM gift for kids. It's relatively cheap, all the plastics are of good quality and fit nicely. From an educational aspect, you hit two birds with one stone. Kids learn all about the basic biology of seeds and how to grow them and also learn about greenhouses and how they work. I know I would be extremely excited if I got something like this as a kid. Damn, I was excited getting it as a 30 year old. The only minus I can think is that I would like it to come with 6 peats (one for each pot) and more types of seeds.

Highly recommended :D

Let me know in the comments down below if you have any questions or if you want more photos of the product!

Τα άλλα είναι του διαβόλου πράματα :O

Could it be use to grow any type of seed or only the seeds that came with it?

Any type that fits the pots I guess :P

You couldn't get the picture straight? I got a sore head because of you now.

Of course we will want more pictures when your greenhouse becomes green!

Great present you got, Have fun!

I am too lazy to bother with pics :P

I wouldn't mind a gift of a greenhouse kit too. But don't forget to add a bottle of wine to it :)

you can have a greenhouse or a bottle of wine! Take your peak!

Well, I'll go for greenhouse then :)

Once you get bored with this Auntie Ruth will get another one ;)

oooooo I can't wait!

Awesome, a new project, This one I won't make mistake in thinking how it will look at the end. Good luck:)
I think this a cool find, even for an adult who likes to grow their own herbs for cooking or smoking nowadays:)

yeah...herbs... XD
