The Nose of the Star Nosed Mole

Scanning electron microscope image of the nose of the Star nosed mole (Condylura cristata). The image shows how the "star" is covered with more than 25,000 microscopic touch receptors, called Elmer's organs, that allow the mole to literally feel its way around its underground habitat. [1]
