Here is how the Steemit Trending Page would look like without Bid Bots! (27.03.2018)
Trending Posts Without Bid Bots
In the last 24 hours alone people spend at least 20825 SBD and 1362 STEEM on post promotions using bid bots or vote selling services. I know bid bots are a controversial topic and it is not up to me to decide if these bots are good or bad. Heck, I'm a bot myself, so who am I to judge? However, I can help you with your own judgment by providing data. Besides my DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS, where I try to direct attention to posts that deserve more rewards, I decided to use the data at my disposal to publish another kind of top list.
Nowadays it is incredibly difficult to make it to the trending section without spending about 100 SBD or more on bid bot services. So I asked myself, how would the trending page look like if there were no bid bots? Or to be more precise, how would the trending page look like if we exclude every post bumped by a bid bot?
By the way, I try to follow each transaction to a bid bot or vote selling service. Yet, if you figured that I missed a bot in one of the trending posts below, please do leave a comment so I can include it in the future. Thanks!
The Top 10 Posts NOT Promoted by Bots
So without further ado, here are the top earning and text based posts (excluding dmania etc.) of the last 24 hours of content creators that, to the best of my knowledge, did not pay for voting bots or vote selling services. You can see for yourself how these comapre to the current trending posts on the Steemit front page.
ADSactly Personal Why You Should Leave Your Comfort Zone Today... -- by @adsactly with a current reward of 230 SBD
!adsactlycomfort.jpg source I wanted to write to you all today to think about something really important As a general rule, when you are in your comfort zone, things stay the same and nothing changes. Granted, this isnt always a bad thing, but what about your dreams? Where do they fit in when you are doing the same thing every day, hoping for different results, waiting for That Thing to happen, or tomorrow to come? Tomorrow is here and then gone really fast. It easily becomes next wee...
Foreign Baseball Leagues Offer Struggling American Players the Chance to Turn Their Careers Around -- by @donkeypong with a current reward of 217 SBD
!MLB.jpg Spring training is one of my favorite times of the sports year. North Americas baseball teams gather in sunny climates for a few weeks. They train, play practice games, and get back into shape for the long season that approaches. For fans, it is a time of unlimited potential. Even the worst team is undefeated until the season begins in earnest. In any given year, anything seems possible. Regardless of how busy I am during the month of March, I allot some time to watch a few Spring...
The Empire has sent you a friend request. -- by @lordvader with a current reward of 184 SBD
Greetings loyal followers. My executive assistant Vera, who is the only other indispensable member of the Empire, has informed me that some of you may be able to provide The Empiree with valuable intelligence on the inhabitants of your ridiculously primitive planet. This is typically how I like my advisors. Standing there doing nothing like the morons they are. Because I am the most intelligent, most thoughtful, most qualified, most popular, toughest and greatest being who has ever exi...
Updates on tagbot Better voting rounds! -- by @emrebeyler with a current reward of 169 SBD
It has a couple use cases, for example Voting for local tags tr, deutsch, etc. to support local content creators See the announcement thread for the information about the project. Recently, I got great feedback and suggestions on Utopian 1 2 3 and implemented some of them with the newest release. If you define a minimum word count in the config.json, the bot will check post bodies and skip them if needed. I have used a basic PorterStemmer with nltk library. There is still a room ...

Original Art Photography Series by velimir 242 Yellow Corner -- by @velimir with a current reward of 127 SBD
a titlesource ur.com I choose this photo because of several things that might not be noticed by an untrained eye. At the first sight, one doesnt see that the whole image is monochromatic. The colour scheme is solely made from various tonalities of the yellow colour. This is interesting because it was done without a filter. The scene was like this, and I really loved that fact. The light from the left side is falling on two similar objects. To the left object, it appears to be the side...
Motorcycle Travel Series by velimir The Funny Exhibit Part 280 -- by @velimir with a current reward of 122 SBD
a titlesource ur.com !crta.png This is the edge of the city centre where vehicles are not allowed to go further. The hard road curve is separating the traffic from the street of many pubs. Its very much a tourist area but locals frequent it as well. a titlesource ur.com To my left side, there is a cosy coffee chop surrounded by green. A place to come and relax from daily activities. It is quite secluded and at the end of the street, so tourists dont usually walk all the way before t...

Is it possible that Tax Day is the single biggest drain on Cryptocurrency Prices currently? -- by @jrcornel with a current reward of 110 SBD
Which is not really that surprising when prices were up something like 20,000 across the board for many in the space. However, the continued, and somewhat relentless selling as of late might be seen as somewhat of a surprise to some observers. Myself, slightly included. From increased regulation from just about everywhere, to the latest FUD news story of the day. However, in my opinion, the two biggest drain on prices are currently coming from the SEC Securities and Exchange Commission ...

I mean, to me, it seems like a better page. Whenever I go onto Trending, I'm just faced with announcements from Steem based apps, certain Steem Celebs latest posts. In essence, it is incredibly dull and stagnant. I only go on there rarely now as I know, for a fact, I'm not going to find anything I want to see.
Instead, I'm relying on a follow list and sub-tags to find content I want to read.
Yeah, I like it better the way it is. Thank you for the interesting view of what it would be like.
Thank goodness for the voting bots. We've been seeing those people trend for a year now.
Yeah, big surprise there, right? Steem Guild guys and meta-curation posts. How interesting and refreshing and totally based on the subjective opinions of and allocation by “the community!”
I think most people are aware and probably in agreement by now:
Trending is the worst aspect of this interface.
It’s not going to change any time soon. Maybe Steem 2.0 can offer better alternatives for social media. I’m not sure this one can be salvaged if the “leadership” doesn’t change. And there’s no sign that it will.
I feel the same about this comment and a lot of David's writing and overall work.
they use a different kind of voting system ;)
Yes - someone called it circle-jerking. i think it's a very apt word to describe this kind of voting. A lot of self-abuse as well ;-)
Fair enough, but for me, I guess, by your definition I rank more among the content evangelists :-D
lol, true. I am all for good content, I think pretending it is the bidding bots messing with that is either not seeing the real picture or disingenuous. It is one fixed system vs. the other. :)
Nice post thank for sharing
Thank you for opening this Knight's eyes to what Steemit might look like in a pay-for-vote-bot free blockchain @trufflepig - excellent post.
For a long time I have said that pay-for-vote-bots were damaging the growth potential of Steemit - you have effective demonstrated one of the reasons why.
This whole notion of charging to distribute something that you are granted for free, is completely unethical. And it is made worse by the fact that you are already earning rewards for curating anyway.
I am not going to sit here and whinge about it though - I will simply go on rewarding genuine, high-quality contributors to the platform and hope that one day the competition becomes so fierce and the margins so slim that all steemians simply give up on them.
Thanks again and resteemed.
SirKnight!
Wonderful post ..thanks for sharing...Best of luck friend ✫
I would have thought at a rep 52 you would know not to spam people.
Please stop
The only ways to get high value posts are:
Only #2 doesn't rule me out, so I pay :)
None of these criteria have anything to do with quality content you notice ;)
Damn that Wales! I always hated the UK.
:'D
in actual fact the bots are killing us and making way for the trash writers to over shadow the good ones cos some cant write anything at all but have the steem power
this is a great post keep it up
great research - very interesting to see what it would like organically - I wish I could adjust my feed so that I can only see blogs from authors I'm interested in . Probably a way to do it , but I haven't found it yet - but I'm not interested in seeing trending posts in languages that I can't understand - not sure how that is helpful to anyone -would be nice to go to my feed an recognize the language and the authors - anyone know how to do that?
I almost fell asleep!
