This is my entry for this week's Market Friday challenge hosted by @dswigle
I discovered a fascinating collection of dolls at the Rockhampton Heritage Village in Queensland, Australia, with many of them being categorized as antiques. After taking a good look around I couldn’t help but notice how times and fashions have changed. There was not one Kim Kardashian look alike to be seen………thankfully.
These dolls were displayed behind glass cabinets so the images are a little blurred, but hopefully the character and individuality of the dolls in this collection will be appreciated.
This little cutie looked great in black and white. I've included the colour version below this one.
Originally, ‘The Doll House’ was situated near St. Christopher’s Chapel in Nerimbera in a building that was formerly used as a recreation centre for American troops who were stationed in the Rockhampton area during WW11.
It was later used as a Scout Hall and Shell Museum in Yeppoon but then the building was transported to the Village where The Myrtle Perkins Doll Collection is situated. This amazing collection is home to approximately 1,600 dolls. This is a sizable collection by anyone's standards and requires more than your average 'Doll House' to display them in.
Myrtle Perkins loved dolls from an early age and would spend countless hours not only playing with them but designing dolls out of wooden pegs. She also made corn dolls and dressed them in scraps of fabric.
Fast forward to 1962. Myrtle was taking a walk along East Street in Rockhampton with her husband, Allan. He spotted a gorgeous Japanese National Doll adorning a shop window and was so impressed with it, he bought it as a gift for his wife.
This triggered a strong desire in Myrtle to gather dolls and as the number of dolls increased, The Myrtle Doll Collection was birthed. Her hobby gave her a lot of pleasure and as her collection grew, she decided to display them. This continued until her death in 2003 and now visitors can enjoy viewing them at The Rockhampton Heritage Village.
And with me being a keen Digital Art fan, I just had to include a digitally enhanced image, so here it is. I liked the ethereal effect that was achieved with this one and I just love her navy blue eyes and and cupid shaped lips framed by copper curls.
Congratz, your post has been resteemed and, who knows, will maybe appear in the next edition of the #dailyspotlights (Click on my face if you want to know more about me...)

I always loved dolls! That’s an amazing collection! I like your digitally enhanced image! I have some Madame Alexander dolls in my attic that I should sell or display!
This is only a small part of Myrtles collection Violet. I will do another post for next Market Friday. I loved dolls as a young girl too. I'm not sure what a Madame Alexander doll is but I am sure they will be lovely......and obviously much loved. They are hard to part with at any age.
Bertha "Beatrice" Alexander Behrman (March 9, 1895 – October 3, 1990),[1][2] known as Madame Alexander, was an American dollmaker. Founder and owner of the Alexander Doll Company in New York City for 65 years, she introduced new materials and innovative designs to create lifelike dolls based on famous people and characters in books, films, music, and art. Among her notable creations were the Scarlett O'Hara doll, the Dionne quintuplets dolls, and a 36-doll set of the royal family and their guests at the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. During her stewardship, the company produced more than 5,000 dolls, many of which became collector's items. Source
Here's an example of one like my older sister or I might have in our collections. https://www.etsy.com/listing/589809755/vintage-madame-alexander-german-doll-70s
Oh yes.......as soon as I checked out that link you kindly shared with me I recognized the beautiful Madame Alexander dolls @violetmed Your collection must be very desirable if you have any of these dolls in them. Thanks so much for this extra information. It is much appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend. 💐
Oh, beauty! I absolutely love this, Trudee! @trudeehunter I was never fortunate enough to have many dolls, especially being from a family of almost all boys, but, my girls were spoiled by grandparents that sent them beautiful dolls throughout the years.
I love how, amazingly, they are in absolutely awesome shape! The clothes are also some of the prettiest and so many handmade. Thank you for showing off the displays, the glass wasn't even spotted by me, great job there!
I love the history, the stories, and the entire post. Thank you for taking the time to share the pleasure of your post. And I really loved your edit on this! You are so good at it!
I'm glad you enjoyed this blog Denise. I was fascinated to see these dolls in such good condition and as I took so many photos, I thought I'd spread them out over a couple of posts.
Haha......it may appear so, but my photo collection is getting out of hand and I really need to do some serious culling because I am finding it increasingly difficult to find what I am looking for.
It doesn't help to have to store them in different sizes as FAA needs bigger files than what I use in steemit.
Howdy Trudee! that is alot of dolls, 1,600? Wow and they are all in perfect condition right? And they are valuable? And you were jealous because the collection is larger than yours? I thought the photos were great, could hardly tell there was glass there in most of them anyway and the bottom one really turned out lovely didn't it?
1,600 is a lot of dolls alright and apparently most of them belonged to Myrtle. Where she stored them before taking them to the museum I don’t know. 😊
There are a lot more photos so I will have to do Part 2 soon.
I only had one favourite doll when I was young and then gave it away to a Missionaries daughter who’d never owned one before and she spent many years playing with her.
Howdy again Trudee! oh I think dolls are fascinating, especially the antique ones. Part two will be interesting!
That is so sweet that you gave your favorite doll up, that was a a God thing to do though.
Thank you John.....yes, I was very happy to part with my doll and the missionaries daughter changed her name to mine as she was so grateful to own her very own doll even tough it was second hand. .
Exciting? Well, I did have an enjoyable lunch date with my husband today. We left our air conditioned home to enjoy a lovely air-conditioned restaurant. I can't wait for the weather to cool down.
Thank you @pixresteemer

Thanks very much for your wonderful support. 💐
You are truly organized, Trudee @trudeehunter I cannot seem to run that path, but, by the seat of my pants is how it is done in the last year or so.
Yikes.
I do need to slow down and get a little more organized!

I ended up getting a 10 TB external hard drive to keep all my pictures in one place.
I wish you luck but you may consider putting them in an external.
