Some Perler Bead Art I Have Done
I love doing bead art. I use Perler beads since I am in the United States, Europe has Artkal, I believe (who has a wider color range - so jealous). I decided to do a quick article on some of the pieces I have done over the years.
This standing Sonic is HUGE in comparison to some pieces I do regularly. It is not the biggest but it is still big. I move a lot of this one on Ebay.
These were all donated to a retro gaming show I sponsored a few years ago. They were given out as prizes in contests held throughout the duration of the event.
Trying new things out, I went with one of the black and white Game Boy Castlevania games with this one. This was a request by an Ebay buyer which has a funny story behind it. I listed it so they could purchase it for the agreed upon price but before they could buy it, someone else bought it so I had to make two. That got me to thinking, maybe there is a market for these black and white items. This one is available on Ebay.
Castlevania II is my favorite of the series (want to dispute it? Hit the comments, let's go). That is why I jumped at this commission piece by a Castlevania fan on Ebay. They ordered pieces from all three NES games and the black and white Game Boy piece above this. The awesome thing was, they let me pick what to make based on my other work they were able to check out. They still order new items from time to time (mostly new enemies or a new Belmont/pose). Want this for yourself? I will be making new stock on this one if requested.
This is a special order of 50 pieces that went out in a retro gaming subscription box. I spent all weekend that week building these and packing them to ship. You would think I would be sick of Link but I am not. I also made versions with colored Rupees as the base to break things up and one special edition piece to help make the subscription box interesting (at the request of the client). He ordered a Metroid piece in this style but has not shipped yet so I cannot share that one just yet.
This was another commission from an Ebay customer. They wanted something to put on either end of their bookshelf and for it to be Mario themed. This is the design they settled on. This one is available upon request.
Sticking with the Mario theme we have going here. This was one of my first 3D standing scenes to sell on Ebay. Such an iconic scene. Want one? Hit Ebay.
This was a requested piece from another site. The Space Marine guy was pieced together from several shots. He took a fair bit of time to build - a nightmare of sorts. lol
Duke Nukem and a boss that was pretty much guesswork as to where what went to make him (there are no real clear shots of him on the net that I could find). I think it turned out great. Same client as the one above.
Not my piece
This is a request by the above customer. I am still working on breaking down the scene. He got this pic from another site, liked it, and wants one of his own. This piece is going to be around $90 when I ship it out to him. There is just so much going on in this scene.
Another Ebay requested Castlevania scene.
How I lay out a scene before putting beads down.
Bad pic but there are two enemies on the right in this one.
I do 3D objects too, like this Game Boy (with removable cartridge). I am working on mixing mini Perler beads for the screen so I can include a game scene for added detail.
I had more designs but they were lost due to hard drive crashes (I now use online storage A LOT). Let me know what you all think. I will do more guides on building these so just mention what you want to see.
Nice game themes
Thank you. I go where the customers are, and I happen to love gaming so it works out quite well. lol
Awesome work! I feel like playing Sonic now!
