Optimus Prime Ghostbusters Edition Price Release Date Announced

Hasbro is no stranger to combining their popular Transformers line of action figures with other pop culture entertainment. We have seen Star Wars, various Marvel figures, and now Ghostbusters get the transforming robot action figure treatment. There is one thing that really bothers me on this one though versus those others mentioned.

The Ghostbusters Optimus Prime has the official name of MP-10G Optimus Prime Ecto-35 according to CBR. They go on to say that the Ecto-35 will be available at this years San Diego Comic-Con event which happens in July.

Polygon mention the MP-10G Optimus Prime will be available for $149.99, quite steep if you ask me. Especially for what is essentially a repaint of the Masterpiece Edition with a Ghostbusters trap stylized mini vehicle and Slimer mini fig.

Don’t take that all wrong, I mean there are some other changes such as the gun that MP-10G Optimus Prime carries now has a hose running down his arm/to his back (reminiscent of Ghostbusters weapons). There are also a few additions to the trailer attachment, along the roof. Other than that, the rest of the changes are all cosmetic at best.

For me, this is not worth the money they are asking for it. Especially when you consider for 1/3 the price you can get an official Ecto-1 Transformer that is a brand new robot from Gamestop.

While the Ectotron figure is not as articulated as the MP-10G Optimus Prime, he is at least a new figure and not just a repaint of a previous release. I just feel, for the price, Hasbro should have done a bit more with the MP-10G Optimus Prime figure.

As with anything, there will be collectors that lap it up and there will be resellers that only grab it with profits in mind due to it being a limited edition release for the San Diego Comic-Con.
