Nintendo Switch Sells 1.5 Million Consoles

The Nintendo Switch is a success by just about anyone’s standards. What is interesting is how many consoles they have sold since launch, just under two weeks ago, reportedly it is 1.5 million units. The other staggering statistic here is the number of copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that Nintendo moved during this same period.

Per GamesIndustry.biz (1) Nintendo sold about 1.34 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That equals about nine out of ten console buyers bought a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These sales figures do not consider the Nintendo Wii U version of the game.

Nintendo has stated they will sell two million consoles by the end of March. At this rate, they are well on their way to accomplishing that goal.

The next problem Nintendo faces now is getting more interesting and fun games out in a timely manner. Nintendo console launches are not new to high, early, sell through with consumers. Now, later though, sales are known to drop off as consumers realize new games are rarer and rarer.
