Microsoft Reignites Mobile Plans Including Xbox Games

Microsoft Windows Mobile was a failure by many measures. One thing that platform did for Microsoft is give them a large amount of insight into the mobile gaming platform. If you wanted to play a Halo game on your phone it was going to have to be on a higher end Windows Mobile phone. Well, with Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, you will soon be able to stream Xbox games to your mobile device.

For those that do not know, Xbox Game Pass is like Netflix but for Xbox games. Much like Netflix you pay a set price each month and then can access hundreds of games as much as you want.

Unfortunately, just like Netflix, with Xbox Game Pass you are probably not going to find many of the latest blockbuster titles that just launched.

There are plenty of games available though and Microsoft offers a free trial period for gamers wanting to check out Xbox Game Pass.

At this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) we saw hints from Phil Spencer, Executive President of Gaming at Microsoft, that Xbox Game Pass is coming to mobile phones. I say hints because his words were “any device” when discussing the future of the streaming service.

I doubt we will see Xbox Game Pass appear on the PlayStation or Nintendo Switch consoles but, well, you never know. Microsoft started console gaming much like Sony did. As a third-party developer and publisher.

The question right now, besides if Xbox Game Pass is coming to mobile for sure, is what games would be included? Will the library be expanded to feature all Xbox One games? Could that even be a possibility for Microsoft? It is clear from the E3 announcements that first party games will be available on Xbox Game Pass which is a great start.

Digital gaming is gaining ground as Internet connections become more secure, faster, and higher speeds become more commonplace. These improvements make things like Xbox Game Pass a possibility.
