Fans Create 100 New Bubble Bobble Levels

Ah, level hacks. One of the more interesting hacks if you ask me. Sure, more characters are nice, such as the various Streets of Rage 2 hacks we feature from time to time, but those are the same levels. New levels means new challenges, new adventures, and of course, more fun for fans. That is exactly what has been released for Bubble Bobble. 100 new levels for you to conquer. This is for the Nintendo Entertainment System version, sorry fans of other versions.

According to Retro Game Network, this hack for Bubble Bobble, called Bubble Bobble Deluxe, has been in development since 2015. This update features the work of four fans of the original Taito game - Polar Hacker, Trax, Bisqwit, and Starxxon.

Not content with just creating new levels, this group has also created some new graphics, tweaked some items and improved a few colors here and there. Quite a bit of work there, almost an insult to simply refer to Bubble Bobble Deluxe as a level hack.

If you plan on playing this hack you are going to need a clean ROM, preferably one you create yourself from your copy of the game (though even the legality of that is suspect). If you plan on playing Bubble Bobble Deluxe on a real Nintendo Entertainment System then you will need a flash cart that works with ROM patches as well, otherwise you can enjoy it via emulator on your computer or various portable devices.
