Darkwing Duck Game was in Development, Shelved

If you remember the days of playing Nintendo Entertainment System games then you probably remember one called Darkwing Duck. Unlike another Disney franchise that Capcom took on around this time, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck was not able to garner enough attention for a sequel. That did not stop Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus developer, Headcannon, from going farther than just pitching a sequel of sorts, they developed an early demo of it. Best of all is, at least in this situation because Capcom passed on it, you can download the demo for free.

The art style that Headcannon were going for is a Game Boy Advance style that obviously complimented the animated show quite well. Too bad Capcom passed on this spiritual successor as it is being called by media such as Comicbook.com.

Unfortunately, Capcom passed on this Darkwing Duck game for some reason. Game Informer proposes that it was potentially due to low sales numbers for Ducktales Remastered - reportedly only selling 1.2 million copies.

According to Aaron Sparrow, on Twitter, this Darkwing Duck game was to be set between the show and “The Duck Knight Returns” featuring Steelbeak, Taurus, Bulba, and the Fearsome Five as the villains you would face throughout the levels.

Unfortunately, this game does not appear to ever be completed as Capcom has passed on it. That doesn’t mean that fans are out in the cold though as Headcannon have released the demo they developed on their website.

It is sad that fans will not be getting a chance to enjoy this game beyond the single level demo that is available. Something is better than nothing and it is not all that often that we, as fans, get a chance to check these things out when they fail to pass the corporate pitch.
