Changes to Expect in Resident Evil 2 Remake

in #games5 years ago

By now you may have heard that Capcom is remaking Resident Evil 2. If not, now you know. Unlike most remakes and HD updates/re-releases, Capcom are approaching this remake of Resident Evil 2 as a brand new build based Raccoon City. That is great news for fans that are tired of the normal Capcom “remake” strategy of slightly changing a few things and barely updating the graphics (such as Resident Evil 2 and 3 re-release for Dreamcast or Code Veronica on PlayStation 2). With that new approach comes changes that can be good or bad.

Rich Stanton from Kotaku.co.uk was able to get some time with Resident Evil 2 and he sprinkled some design change details throughout his article. I am simply pulling those details into a more concise article.

First, the game is more true open world and connected in a sense. In the original game, you could avoid zombies and other enemies by simply leaving that area (with the exception of a few key plot points). The biggest change mentioned by Stanton is the layout of the RPD station where the seamless-ness is best exemplified. There is a particular bad-ass undead creature veterans of Resident Evil 2 will instantly recognize that makes his return here in the remake. In the original Resident Evil 2 you could take your time getting away from it - not anymore, now it is a blood thirsty monstrosity hell bent on ending you.

Another example of the truly connected environment of the police station is brought up in how you handle zombies. If you don’t finish off a zombie in one area of the station, you can expect to realistically encounter that zombie again somewhere else in the police departments halls and offices as it continues its blood lust based search for you. Nice.

Audio apparently will play a larger role in this remake of Resident Evil 2 as well. You can judge where an enemy is based on the noise they make as they lumber around the game world. Again, nice change.

To get more of a sense of exactly what Stanton thought of the Resident Evil 2 remake, head over to Kotaku.
