Today a wonderful thing happened
I need to test this further, but today something quite special happened.
I was working my way through the posts in #challenge30 and upvoting them as I go.
I noticed that when I hit the upvote button, the dollar value ticked over a couple of cents.
Wooho! My vote added to the other votes, was enough to kick the rewards up a notch.
I smiled and carried on to the next post. I liked it and the rewards ticked up again. What sort of a coincidence is that?
What happens if I do another post?
I tried a third post and sure enough the rewards went up two whole cents. That made me feel really good, knowing that my upvote was actually sending some rewards to the content creators.
So I tried some other random post from around Steemit to see what would happen.
My next post, nothing happened. Bugger. That kind of burst my bubble a bit.
So I tried another one or two. Each time the rewards ticked over a couple of cents!
That’s just awesome!
If this is true, that my vote is actually sending something more than 0.000000000000001 STEEM to someone, then that makes upvoting all the more important for me. That means I can spread the love to a bunch of people I follow. My vote is meaningful.
No doubt this is a bug in the system that will be fixed tomorrow, but for today I feel like a whale - a very small whale that has to stand on a stool to look up to a dolphin, but a whale none the less.
Update
I’ve been voting on a bunch of posts today and for some of them I can see the rewards tick over a couple of cents each time and for others it doesn’t. So it must just be timing or something. i.e. my vote is just enough to push the counter over the edge.
But it's still a cool feeling when it does happen.

I just got a cent on yours :0) I think from my experience that your vote is weighted relative to the value on the post. For me voting on your post there at 16 cents moved it up 1 but if I vote on someone's post at several dollars I can nudge it up by anything from 3 to 7 cents or so. Of course you have to watch the number of votes as well as sometimes the post can bet getting bored on by others at the same time.
It is a fantastic feeling making a real difference though I agree!!
Dang it, I was hoping to watch the magic happen, LOL. Someday it shall.

the power of your vote is always the same but the value awarded to the poster and the value earned in curation changes based on total votes on the post and other stuff like timing, until the 24 hr voting period is over
Yeah i know there is some complex stuff going on behind the scenes, but I had never seen my vote have any impact before. So it was really cool to see. ;-)
I have actually seen my vote bring a post value down before.
