Troubleshooting a Switch
So depending on the type of issues experienced I would advise that you try out few of the troubleshooting steps that I would normally do in these types of scenarios.
- A group of users complain that they have no network access.
- Check that the switch is online.
- Ensure that uplinks are securely plugged in.
- Check switch configuration
- Test connectivity to the core.
- Users are getting the wrong IP address.
- Check the vlan they have assigned to on their port.
- Intermittent connectivity to the network for one user.
- Change the port on the switch.
- If still an issue, replace cabling based on process of elimination.
- A user gets an apipa address.
- Check the ip helper on the core, it needs to point to the DHCP server.
- Switch constantly losing its configuration.
- Replace the switch if you cannot save
Thanks for reading and let me know if you had any scenarios worth sharing.
