The art of traditional mail

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

The art of correspondence - it's delicate, not easy, but at the same time very interesting thing.

Especially now, the traditional epistolary style has become a dinosaur in the world of electronic communications.
And this dinosaur obeys only to the true master of the word with endurance and a stick of love for the word.

Yes, you can quickly send an e-mail nowadays, a message, quickly chat with the camera. Quick, fast, fast ...
In my imagination, everything looks a little different and genuine.

I imagine how tens and tens of years ago, a young boy took a pen and piece of paper with the trembling hand and sincere letters spilled with ink.
The first letter - confession in love.
And then it fell into the hands of a pale, cheerful young lady.
The paper trembles in her hands, because the fingers release all the fluctuations of emotion and vibration of the heart. A smile suddenly shone the face of the soul which fell in love for the very first time.

I imagine how the gates of the Royal Palace noisily opened with a creak and a messenger rushing through them like a wind with a small piece of paper in his bosom.
King quickly deploys message and exhales loudly with relief - his army won the final victory over the invaders and now his people can live in peace again.

I imagine how the blue morning awakens the village with the sticky damp fog.
The old woman in a black shawl sits at the hut.
Several figures are visible from the hill, they slowly weave towards the streets. Silhouettes of men seem tired. Each of the soldiers went to their home.
One stayed for a minute not far from the old woman. He looked at her wrinkled features, walked silently, put a sheet with his only hand near her and walked further really fast.
She already knew.
The letter was taken as part of the real world, which confirms the fact that the mother's heart has known - her son will never return home. The ink on the white paper begins to become a dark blue spot from the heavy and hot tears.

I imagine a sunny day, a big city rushing with its endless streams of movement of people and machines. Poor area with many floors. The homeless near the entrance splashes on dirty asphalt.
The young guy comes in a cheerful step home - to an old apartment almost in the basement, where parents are waiting for him and with smiles holding a mysterious envelope in their hands. He jumps on the ground, runs up and grabs it.
Yes!
He was accepted for free study at a prestigious university.
He did it!
A piece of a paper becomes wet in the hands of the family, which merged with sincere embraces into one tangle of happiness.

I imagine how tired parents return from their work.
The house is quiet and dark, and the only baby is a long time grown up and subdue another country.
They check mail and their eyes flare up with joy - a postcard from her.
Somehow it became lighter in the room.
The news from her every time revives life and hope in this house.

I send a few postcards to my relatives each month.

Firstly, it is nice to them and joyful to me.

Secondly, nothing will replace a feeling when holding the same postcard as the sender some time ago.

The smell, tactile sensations, awareness of the path that passes through this piece of paper is a kind of special magic.

Thirdly, correspondence is really an entire art. The process itself captures so much - choose a postcard, sign, send.
How much of energy is put into such a simple ritual!

A few years ago, I began to exchange postcards through https://www.postcrossing.com/

Since then I have received and sent a lot of cards.
Every time the waiting is nicely to tickling something inside.
And euphoria from receiving a piece from someone's life, the country - it is generally indescribable joy.

P.S. A few useful (in my view) things about the correspondence:

  • It trains language, memory, thinking.
Selection of correct words, synonyms, utterances, pictures. All this precisely holds the brain in a tone.

  • Gives a special feeling of contact with the sender.

  • Psychological unloading.
Sometimes we have some hard feelings and it’s hard to express everything aloud.
In that case you can take a clean piece of paper, a pen , sit comfortably and allow this silent white depth to absorb your sadness, joy, experience.

Let each sender find the necessary words and his addressee. And let it be only good news, sincere words and bright emotions.

I used my received and sent post cards as illustrations to this post

Nice one here...quite revealing

I just simply love the Imagine part. And the boy who would pen down his first letter of confession... and the soldier who would write his last words for his mother. Nowadays, everyone always wants to make things quick. Quickly send a text, post a picture, yada yada. Thanks for the reminder of how much a simple traditional correspondence could be so special. 💕

written correspondence is truly an art, one I had forsaken and one you now made me want to start again. Thank you! beautifully written

you definitely should start! It's a very nice thing to do)

Nice post, beautifully presented and explained. detail oriented with nice pics. thank you for sharing this with us, Upvoted

Aww the way u described this , especially the past how important it was to take a pen or brush on a piece of cloth or paper sending it via a messenger post or dove , I love letters more than the modern way of contact first it depicts the love and time u put in writing the letter , the message it entails , all ur emotions described in it and it's a clear feel of happiness when the letter arrives on a post card that's truly beautiful expressing true gratitude. Holds much more value then just sending a message over the phone.

So glad I am not the only one that enjoys sending and receiving real post by snail mail. Something about it makes a person feel special. Thanks. 🐓🐓

Letters these days seem to be a one way street directly from the bank! What happened to foreign pen pals?

Beautiful post! I have been wanting to start sending hand written mails to my loved ones but never happened. One of those things that you never take out time for somehow. sigh!
