How to Create a Media Kit | GUIDE AND FREE SAMPLE

What is a Media Kit and Why You Need One?
Media Kit is like your CV. It is like a Business Card. Media Kit is your "face" and a list of your accomplishments and qualities. It is a visual representation of the value you can bring to brands, sponsors.
Everyone who has a blog has an Instagram or a YouTube account he wants to treat like a business needs a Media Kit. Even an impressive Twitter following, which turns into a side hustle could use a good media kit. If you want to work with brands or land sponsorships media-kit is the first thing that they would like to see, as well, it shows that you are a professional and know what the heck you are doing! (Even if it is your first time working with a brand or doing a collaboration!)
A great media kit is the best way to show the potential sponsors !
It's time to create the media kit of your dreams! I can't promise you it's going to be easy, but it will be worth it! (Cheesy, right?) No, actually creating a media kit is not that hard at all! Let's dive in!
Collect All the Numbers and Data
Before you actually start drafting your media kit you will have to collect all your statistics. Potential partners will want to know your numbers! Brands will want to know how big is your audience to tailor their offers to that.
Write down your Twitter follower count, Youtube Subscriber count, Instagram follower count and engagement percent as a bonus. (If you don't know how to calculate your Instagram engagement, we will tell you how to do that in the next post, stay tuned.) Mention your Facebook Page followers too! Don't forget to mention your monthly engaged readers on Pinterest, it's the blogging kingdom! And, the most important numbers - your blog statistics. Your monthly pageviews, monthly visitors, e-mail list subscribers and demographics of your readers.
If you do not have a large audience, don't worry yet! Write down your growth, in any Social Media platform you can click on analytics and it will show your follower growth in the past months. If they will see a growing pattern, you might be the upcoming start so they still might be truly interested!
Collect at least 5 of your best pictures that fit the same style and a photo of you! You will use them in your media kit!
Choose A Template and Create an Outline
We always use canva for all our Pinterest graphics, for all our banners, Youtube thumbnails and basically everything! Everyone uses canva! It's free and super simple! You can choose from many templates they offer and tailored sizes for any visual you are creating.
After you have chosen your design, you have to create an outline of what you will include in your Media-Kit. Leave plenty of room for pictures and keep it minimal. Don't make the media kit too saturated. Stick to the CV idea of what you should include - 1) introduction and a short description, 2) list of all your statistics, 3) what is your value, 4) photos and beautiful visuals, 5) previous collaboration experience, 6) contact information. There you have it, a rough outline. Now, let me explain you a bit more about each of the points.

That is how our daily routine looks like - living in front of our laptops!
Write an Introduction and Description
Tell your potential sponsors a bit about yourself. What makes you special, what makes you stand out? This is the opening paragraph of your Media Kit so make it grab their attention. Get a bit personal, tell the person who's reading your Media Kit about your strengths. Brag a bit if your work has been published in any media, share the things you are proud of. Also, include your picture. A good quality, warm picture of you smiling. Because you are friendly, right?
Tell the readers what is your blog about. In short, explain to them if you specialize in budget travel or luxury travel or perhaps adventure travel. Maybe you are writing about digital nomading around the world. Whatever it is, let them know!

List All Your Stats, Reach and Social Media
Now it's time for the fun part! Time to list all those numbers. Start with your blog numbers - 1) Monthly unique visitors, 2) Monthly page views, 3) E-mail Subscribers. Instead of just throwing numbers around capture a screenshot of your stats and implement that! It is always easier to comprehend numbers if they are visualized. Perhaps make a graph. It's easy to implement graphs on canva.Make a chart of your demographics. For example, 40% of your readers are American, 30% Canadian and 30% Australian - make a pie chart. Do the same for the audience age and gender.
Nicely list your Facebook Page follower count, your Instagram follower count, Pinterest monthly viewers and any other social media that you have.
As we mentioned before, if you do not have big numbers to throw around, do not worry! Just emphasize how your social media has grown in the last months! Let's say, you have seen a 200% increase in your monthly blog visits.
Make sure to update your numbers at least quarterly as you grow!
What You Can Offer
One of the most important parts is telling your potential collabs - what you can offer them. Are you willing to go on press trips? Do you offer advertising space on your blog? Do you do product reviews? Perhaps you can do product photography or product videos? Do you accept goods in exchange for a brand promotion? Do you offer private coaching services? Affiliate promotions? The list of things you can do for a brand is endless. Just think of your best skills and put them to work!
Depending on what the brand is interested in you can then discuss the prices and process in more depth! We have noticed that putting the prices up straight away is not that good of an idea. The pricing will always differ depending on what the brand is requiring, how much time it will take etc. Thus, it is individually tailored to each situation. The most important thing is to get the brand interested in you first!
Visuals, Visuals, Visuals
Photos - large, high quality, colorful, with heart and soul in them - represent your work better as any sales pitch. Visuals always work better than text. Choose 5 or more pictures you are proud of and put them into your media kit. Make it an eye candy. That way brands will also know what is your style and get the feel if it fits theirs!
Previous Collaborations and Testimonials
It is quite important to list previous work experiences, if you have any! Think of it as a CV where you list all your relevant job positions. Listing previous experiences will give you credit and show potential sponsors that you know how to actually do the things that you offer to do!
Again, don't worry if you do not have any previous experience, you might as well leave it out. It is not that common for brands to come back at you and ask "Have you done this before and with which particular brands you have worked with?" If they like your media kit, your social media, and blog they will get back to you anyway, irrespectively if you have teamed up with Dior and Ferrari before or not! (Keep dreaming Linda, one day, one day...)
Contact Information and Final Steps
The last point that should be included in your Media Kit is all your contact information. Perhaps put it as "How to Get Touch with Me?" Put down your e-mail, contact number, or however the brands can best reach you.
Re-read and double check your Media Kit. Then leave it for a couple of hours or days, give it a break. Then come back and have the final look. If you love it and you feel you have done a great job the last step is to convert it to PDF file. It is super easy to attach a PDF file to an e-mail and the formatting will always stay the same. It is the best format, really! No DOC files, nonononono! Those are very inconvenient and outdated. And ... YOU ARE DONE! Send your Media Kit out, let the world see it! You should be proud of it!
