Traveling the World #172 - Taking the Water Bus @ Bangkok, Thailand

in #travel5 years ago

Hi Everyone,

The times we go to Bangkok, we try to avoid peak traffic as we know how crowded it can be. But this was not avoided during our Steem Fest trip as we needed to arrive at one of the venues for a 9am start. So the best way to avoid a taxi or BTS was to take the water bus as there will be traffic. I did check Google Maps before leaving the hotel, it we took a Grab or cab, it will take well over an hour to get there, BTS was not convenient where we were staying and the water bus was right next door.

We met with a few guys from the hotel and headed off. I was actually half awake that time so my mind was just trying to get there on time and I followed everyone. Did I mention peak hour before? Yes, it was crowded! Like packed! As we go to more stops, the more people go on. It wasn’t pleasant with everyone trying to hold on, sweating at the same time and for some like myself still try to take some pictures and videos during the ride. I found myself standing on the side with a bit of room next to a railing. There was a guy who would go around collecting money from people and gave us a ticket. Simple but effective.

I followed everyone and got off to get onto another boat. It was a bit chaotic here. Very little signage I could see and people were just everywhere. Crowds until the heat is not a good combo. This time was a lot better with fewer people but we choose a seat at the back of the boat. Just say I’m glad I didn’t my breakfast or else, the people around me may have seen it come out. It was a bit like on a roller coaster with elements of water splashing into your face. Fun and games. None the less, it was the quickest path to get from the hotel to the venue and I’m glad I experience this during peak hour. It was definitely an experience I’ve been telling friends and family back home.

I was once in Bangkok but never ridden the boat that would take you to other areas of the city. Maybe best time.
