Food Sharing #87 - Quick Meal at Henry @ Vienna, Austria with Travelgirl

Hi Everyone,

During our travels in Europe, we can't always eat at restaurants due to timing or whatever the kids feel like that day. In Vienna, we came across a place you can eat in or take away their hot or cold meals. What is special about this place is you pay by weight. I don't recall seeing something like this in Sydney which is why we decided to try it out. There was no seating available so we decided to take it away and eat somewhere else.

As everything was by weight, you just pick and choose all you want. I believe the variety of food would change so that would give people some options. Here is the selection of salads and cold dishes. There are lots of different greens, cold cuts/meats which we didn't actually get as we prefer something warm. For every 100g of food, it costs 2.30 euros. Also note that there is a 50% discount when you purchase your meal between 8.30pm - 9pm which I guess it is their closing time so they can sell the food out.

Other options that were not warm food are sandwiches, fruit, yoghurts etc.

Here is the hot food option. As you can see, it is a more popular option for their customers. There was rice, curry, vegetables, stir fry dishes and the price is the same as the salad bar.

We had a variety of dishes in particular broccoli and rice which my kids wanted on the day (they love their broccoli). Keep in mind that food like broccoli is pretty heavy compared to say green salad so it does add up if you decide to choose the "heavy" food. There was also soup and various drinks you can purchase. The shop offers a scale for their customers to weight their bowls so they can get an idea how much things cost. For the two bowls of food, it cost us nearly 15 euros which I consider expensive considering the food we got was mainly rice and broccoli hence what I mean 'heavy food'. Taste wise, it was delicious but then I was thinking it will be pretty hard to not get rice and broccoli right.
