This is Ankara!
In the middle of Turkey sits the city of Ankara. This city is the capital of Turkey with almost every building having a government connection. It is also the second largest city in Turkey with a population of 3.5 million, and over 5.5 million with providences included.
Founded in 1200 BC this city is OLD! Unfortunately not much of its history remains. As such the city skyline you see below was mostly created after 1923 when the founder of Turkey, Ataturk, declared Ankara the capital.
Like any Turkish city Ankara is busy! Sidewalks, roads and pretty much any open space gets packed! The shots below are all from Kızılay the busiest central area of Ankara.
If you really want to feel the city a walk around Kızılay is a must! If nothing else grab a coffee and enjoy a view like this one shown below. Again this photo is from the Kızılay area but this one specifically was taken in their main square.
After the coffee and/or walk around Kızılay a trip to the trendier area of Cukurambar for a meal is a great idea. This area isn't quite as busy as Kızılay but it is much newer and a bit more refined. You'll see more modern architecture, more stylish restaurants and slightly better food(although all Turkish food is mind blowing). As before photos below.
If you're only in town for a day or so these two areas are more then enough to explorer the culture and tastes of Ankara! If you have a bit more time you can also checkout Ataturk's tomb, a must for any Turk. Unfortunately I was only in town for a day so that's all for now! If you made it this far feel free to give me a follow or ask any questions. Until next time, Happy Travels!!!
